  1. Oddly, I wasn't blacklisted by Cap One. I not only have the Cap One but Best Buy which they now own as well.
  2. The iPad is far more than a book reader. I've been an avid user since it came out. My iPad is never more than an arms length away from me. I use it to keep my calendars, contact lists, email, net surfing, book reading, music playing, getting directions, making reservations, buying tickets, taking notes, and much, much more. I've yet to find any other device that can do everything my iPad does. I've got an HP Touchpad, Google Android tablet and a Nook tablet. They don't even come close.
  3. I had to ask that question about the toilet. It seems the place she was moving into has round bowled, bottom of the line toilets whereas the toilets at her house were elongated and pretty high end. Since the house has not been sold at the foreclosure sale yet, I again suggested that she at least take the toilets she doesn't want over there and install them in place of the ones she took so that there would be toilets in the bathrooms. Technically at this point she still owns the house and she is just making a redecorating decision. When she bought the house about 3 years ago, she was married. He was making good money and she was a stay-at-home mommy. Then after the divorce she got the house (probably because he didn't want it) and she had to get a job. The payments were much higher than she could have ever hoped to make and to make it worse the house has an adjustable mortgage that well, we know which way those all went. So she didn't get into this trouble on her own but my hopes are that she does the smart thing and gets out of this without anyone wanting to give her accommodations in the state run hotel system. In her place, I would have bought inexpensive light fixtures to replace the nice ones, and if the toilets were that big of an issue I would have switched them with the round ones but installed them so they worked. What amazes me is that she without being really legally savvy was able to manipulate the system and stay in the house for 18 plus months without a single payment to the lender. I don't make my mortgage payment by the 5th of each month and I've got Bank of America dialing my number like they have it on speed-dial even though there is no late penalty until the 16th! I'd probably make it about 3 months if I tried something like not paying my mortgages. Then I'd come home and find all my stuff piled at the curb, the locks changed and new residents inside.
  4. Dgilbert, she does technically still own the house. The bank has just advertised it will be sold at the 1st Tuesday of July's sale. I'm not too worried about them getting any money out of her with three kids as a single mother and an income as low as hers, she is pretty much judgment proof. I'm just worried about her going to jail. The house is included in the bankruptcy but I guess they could sue her based on damage done to the house.
  5. That is a good question. The lights, ceiling fans and stove are obvious but the kitchen cabinets and the toilets? The kitchen cabinets are nice but not nice enough to risk visiting the local jail over.
  6. I know a young lady that may have done something pretty stupid. After not having made a payment on her home for about 18 months the house is now published for the first Tuesday of July foreclosure sale. She filed bankruptcy, it was dismissed... refiled bankruptcy and was discharged. Before moving out of the house, she removed many items that I feel should have remained with the house... I'm talking about the kitchen cabinets, the bathroom vanities, the toilets (what she wants these for, I don't know), dishwasher, stove, lights and ceiling fans... Her thoughts are that she is bankrupt anyway so what can they do to her. My thoughts are that she may be going on a vacation to the Grey Bar Inn (for reservations dial 9-1-1 from anywhere in the state). I advised her that if it had been me I would take the stove (it does plug in and is not attached), I would take all the lights and ceiling fans but replace them with cheap light fixtures and that would have been as far as I would have went. This home is in Georgia. She is a single parent of three children and I would really hate to see her wind up doing time over this stupidity. One of her "friends" was actually suggesting that she take the water heater. Hell, she may have I don't know.
  7. I think the realtor ought to reevaluate her position on this one. She stands to make some money or no money. Without a signed agreement I don't see any legal obligation to pay her. On the moral side of things, I pass tons of things on my way to or from somewhere the realtor sends me to look at a house... Do I have an obligation to give her a cut if I choose something that happens to be around one she sent me too? Where is the work that she is doing to earn your money? Did she negotiate a better price for you? I think I'd stay clear of this realtor regardless if you buy this house or not. MLS listings can be researched online very easily.
  8. Now with that one Combat Medic you may have a point. Maybe, Chex will take heed and set up a web report for consumers.
  9. I believe that the gripe most people, including myself, have with Chex System is that it works too well. I was in Chex System for exactly the reason they report ISF activity on two bank accounts. I served my five years of not being able to get a mainstream bank account. Actually, I think that if the credit bureaus system worked as well as Chex System there would be a lot more people that were really careful with credit. You can bet I'll be more careful closing bank accounts.
  10. In 2000 when the company that I worked for filed bankruptcy leaving me suddenly unemployed with a family to support and bills to pay, I delivered papers for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution ($7.50 per hour) at night and changed oil at Jiffy Lube ($6.50 per hour) from 6:00 am until 2:00. Then I went to job interviews until 5:00 pm. Took me two months to land a better job offer. Not great, not where I was before but a start. When I told the oil changing place I was leaving he offered me $10 per hour to stay. The newspaper offered me a $26,000 management position. I took the newspaper position. Now fast forward to 2007 and I make $55,000 in a management field that I knew nothing about prior to delivering papers for part-time money. In Georgia $55K is pretty decent money. I'm a paperboy with a tie and proud of it. My message: If you take a job digging ditches, dig your ditch better than everyone else. The hard work will pay off in the end. It's also easier to find a job when you have a job.
  11. Skylight Bank which is an internet bank and will give anyone an account WITH a Visa ATM card does not use Chex System. Skylight Bank I used them for several years when I was still listed in Chex Systems. They won't allow you to use checks but the Visa card works just like a check. My work required direct deposit and I was lucky enough to find this place.
  12. Sneaking up on someone and shoving something at them or in his/her face can be really hazardous to one's health. I wonder how many process servers have been shot by someone they "frightened".

    Finally, WE CLOSED

Congrats Bullcity... Now I'm watering the heck out of the sod... Oh wait, if this stuff grows I'll have to cut all this grass???
  14. We were supposed to close June 15th... builder wasn't done with house. We were supposed to close June 22nd... county hadn't inspected house. We were supposed to close June 28th... bank couldn't get docs done. Problem with late closing? Our apartment was rented out and we had to be out by July 1st. Move everything to a storage area... family to a hotel... Finally closed on July 3rd... well worth the wait...
  15. Got the clear to close, everything was set for today at 4:30 then the Bank of America closing team couldn't seem to get the paperwork together. Doh! The broker suggested a closing date of Tuesday and I suggested a BROKERS CREDIT for failing to get this thing closed on time with all the delays we've had. His face lost all its color and he got back on his telephone. We close tomorrow at 4:00
