I am a member of NFCU. I currently have a savings and checking account with them. They had pulled TU when opening those accounts for me.

I want to apply for their cash rewards card but I've noticed they pull EQ for credit products. My EQ score happens to be the lowest of all. Should I put a freeze on it so they can pull TU since it's my highest score?

Also, how do you temporarily freeze the CB's? I've never done it before. :blush2:

You can do that, and they will pull TU.

You just put on a freeze, and then lift it when you want it off. I can't recall if you can do a temp freeze, just go to EQs website and you should be able to find out all about it.

I froze EQ last week and NFCU pulled TU. I was approved for a cashrewards signature VISA.

The freeze cost me $10 via freeze.equifax.com

Nice! Thanks for the link.

Remember, this only works for credit cards. Consumer loans will request you to unfreeze your EQ before proceeding.

I have no intentions for any loans at the moment haha. Thank you though.

I see that they sometimes pull TU or both EQ and TU for credit cards. EQ is actually my best report with 0 baddies and TU has 1 baddie. I assume I could do the reverse and freeze TU to ensure that EQ is pulled exclusively?

Okay....don't forget folks that a Freeze does not apply to current creditors, they have a legit permissible purpose to pull and can pull a hard if they want to on a Frozen file. Now if the OP only has a checking and savings as stated and no current credit products with NFCU, it will probably work. IANAL but I bet Navy could argue they have a right to hard pull on a Frozen file if there is an existing banking relationship, even if there are no credit products.

This is correct.

and jus a heads up to everyone else "NavCheck/CLOC/Checking Line of Credit" is considered a "Consumer Loan" and you will have to unfreeze EQ to be approved for it.

Ive been there

In my experience requesting a CLI, NFCU actually pulled a hard on EX, which was the only non-frozen CRA at the time. It took a few extra days for the pull to hit. I don't know if they tried TU, but it seems that in spite of NFCU's legal right to pull a hard in an instance of a preexisting relationship, (they were certainly doing soft AR Inqs) in reality they probably won't do so if a report is frozen.

After reading this thread I decided to try freezing my Equifax report and apply for an increase on my CashRewards card and also apply for the Nav Check. The card was instantly approved so no HP was done. However, I recieved a call and a message stating that there was an issue pulling my Equifax report and I needed to contact Equifax to resolve it then to contact NFCU to have them pull my EQ report. I then sent NFCU a message stating there was some inaccurate info that was being disputed and if at all possible could they pull any of the other two reports. They replied back "unfortunately we cannot approve your request until the issue with your EQ report is resolved" I then contacted EQ and had them remove the freeze temporarily. Then I resent NFCU a message stating to go ahead and pull my EQ report. They then sent an immediate response back approving my request for what I asked for; $3500 Overdraft Line of Credit. In the end, the above poster was correct, NFCU will requst you unfreeze your report to approve a "consumer loan" which Nav Check falls under according to the rep at NFCU.

Btw, I had frozen my report to try and spread out the inquiries.
