This is a follow up to a post I made previously regarding a GW success with a paid Time Warner/Comcast collection I had with CMI. The collection has now been deleted from all 3 CRAs, and I got a letter from CMI stating that Comcast had told them to remove the collection.

I now know my successful letter was one of the two I sent to Comcast. As background, I originally had an account with TW, and apparently Comcast took over for TW in the area. The OC was still reporting as TW on 2 of my reports and Comcast on one. Anyone who has a CMI collection from comcast may benefit from sending a GW to comcast collections, especially if the account was originally from another cable company.

The best advice I received was not getting discouraged if one letter didn't work. I sent close to 10 GW letters to multiple individuals before one reached the right person. I hope someone else finds this info useful.

Good stuff.

The cable companies are relatively easy to GW IME. The key is to have a lot of perseverance.

Hi Qwerty,

Can I ask you a question about your Comcast success?

I am havinig a huge battle with CMI and I have just begun persuing through Comcast.

Was your collection already paid when you GW'd them, or did you offer payment in exchange for deletion. Can I ask you what address you were sending your letters to. I have been having a heckuva time trying to reach the right person.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

My collection was paid approximately 2 years ago when Time Warner owned the account. This may have had an effect, as I never had any contract or dealings with Comcast, yet they "inherited" my account. The address I sent my Comcast letters to was the local Comcast billing office's collection department. The city I was from wasn't huge, and I would be shocked if it was a national office of some sort.

For each GW letter, I sent a copy of the CMI "this account is paid" letter that you have to pay to get from the CMI site. It might be most beneficial for you to call CMI and get the address of the Comcast affiliate reporting. That is how I got the address that ultimately worked.
