DW has a split EQ file. One has 4 pos and 2 neg items on it. The other file has 2 neg and 0 pos on it. Should we just leave this alone and not try to get these 2 merged back together? What are the chances of a creditor seeing both sets of files?

Everytime I pull her report it shows me the one with all the good stuff on there. The only time we pulled theother report was before we called it in in Jan to have them merge it. They never merged, but they put the good one out for us to see. Does that make any difference or should we keep fighting it?

All I can offer in the way of knowledge, is from the auto business. When the consumer has a split file, we get both. I have seen it many times, and banks etc particularly HATE that. It is difficult to say, which file will print up first though.

Marv Bear,

Since lenders don't like split files, what do they do about it?

Well they mainly listen to me mouse 'em out. There is usually something about the file that obviously makes it split. Lots of times, it is a variation of name, i.e. using a middle initial vs full middle name or perhaps using JR vs not. Sometimes different addy's will cause it to split.

They usually look at it like is consumer's fault, but IMO is mainly the data entry person's fault who usually input the info requesting the bureau. It is relatively easy for an uninformed person to creat a split for consumer.

I usually have to argue a bit, but they will take the bureau with the higher score for loan pricing.

Just a word of warning, to possibly prevent this from happening, you should ALWAYS complete an application to anyone in exactly the same way. Do not use variation of your name or address. like Mike for Michael or John for Jonathan. Also when filling out an application, you should always make sure the application is emminently legible.

A SPLIT FILE IS NEITHER CORRECT NOR ACCURATE and must be put back together...or the SMALL CLAIMS COURT can make them put it back together and make them pay you $1,000 for your trouble...
