I attempted to DV a CA (CSD) and I have received an immediate response with a letter asking me for a copy of my DL and SS card. How do I respond to this? Being that I found this on my CR, shouldn't it be their (CA) responsibility to know who's CR they are reporting to? I am not about to send them this info.

I mentioned in the title and not the OP, that they are citing the FTC "red flag rule". From my research and understanding, this applies to the OC and not the collection agency. Mainly due to the fact I am not applying for credit with the CA. This leads me to believe that there must be some sort of relationship between the OC and the CA. Advice? Does this mean that they are still in the 30 validation period? Seems like a stall tactic to me.

WhyChat,

Yes, this is a medical collection. I actually am following that procedure. The red flag letter was their response to the the DV that was sent directly to them after the CRA disputes were unsuccessful for this account. Should I dispute with the CRA in the next step? Then nail them when they try to report it.

OK, this means that the reporting CA has no authority to collect or report.

IF they were a direct assignee of the OC they would not need your data.

Send the follow up letter to the CRAs

I don't know what you mean by "nailing them" if the account is not deleted with the follow up dispute then you can file FTC complaints and CFPB complaints against both the CA and the CRAs
