Ugh, didnt post correctly.

Paypal not secure for checking but ok for Credit and debit cards.

My bank told me not to attach my checking account information to paypal. Debit or credit is ok.

Amazon is ok. They said they had a lot a fraud dealing with paypal ACH transactions. To the point, they are even thinking about permanently blocking all paypal ACH transactions. They have not done it yet.

I have a lot of dealings with paypal and your statement is a good warning. The problem with PayPal is that you are agreeing to give them unfettered access to your account. Even if there is no fraud involved, if someone were to challenge one of your transactions (ie: i never received the stuff webworm promised me), they will grab the cash first, ask questions later.

I use Paypal for merchant services and their problem resolution is ridiculously slow, meanwhile, they sit on your cash.

I continue to do business with Paypal, but am very careful about how. I have a separate bank account set up specifically for PayPal. The do not have access to my main accounts.

Knowing my bank. They will possible do a compromise. Allow ACH credit but not allow ACH debit from paypal/ebay. In a round about way. Said hackers could get access to the checking account info on paypal/ebay easier, then they could with the debit or credit card. They told me they got in a back door. I really dont know what a back door is. I am just passing on what the bank told me. The person that told me is the type that may not understand technology very well.

All I asked is it safe to use to give your checking account info online paypal/ebay no, Amazon yes.

Not sure about half.com They also said be careful. This is why I am hesitant to sell on Amazon or any other place.

Plus I think the bank hates dealing with paypal/ebay.

I am kind of surprised they told me all this.

the banks definitely don't trust paypal. it is a constant target of phishing attacks. having said that, i don't think that your credit/debit card is any safer, they (or at least credit cards) are just better protected if someone does get ahold of your info.

Generally, i believe Paypal's security is solid. The only way someone can get to your info is if you inadvertently open the door for them.

That I disagree with. I did a search on Google. It seems like it easy to get into the paypal account and get the checking account info without doing a thing but cant get the card information. One example is the Skype incident. They didnt have spyware (keyloggers), didnt fall for phishing attacks, didnt give out the password..

I use ING Electric Orange checking as my 'firewall' account. PayPal, half.com, etc. are all linked here, and then I transfer from ING to my real accounts.

I read on the paypal/ebay fourm. That ING does not work anymore with paypal but that forum could be wrong.

I wouldn't give them the TIME OF DAY...let alone my checking account number and routing number

Who are you talking about ING or Paypal?

I have a second BOA account and a US Bank acct tied to PayPal... neither have more than $5-$10 in it at any given time.

I only very rarely will use Paypal, some website merchants use it for their credit card processing and I am worried if I ever have a problem I will be in for some real headaches.

If you have EVER gave them a checking account number it defaults to it when you go to pay for things. I once accidently ended up using it instead of my credit card because I missed a click somewhere. You have to be careful because I really thought I had it going to my credit card. Lucky it wasn't enough to cause me problems.

I had the same problem but since Paypal was linked to an unused checking account, it caused an overdraft. Could have sworn I changed the payment source....Oh well, after that I just removed the checking account from Paypal entirely. The only reason I had it on there was so I would be "verified".
