A wise old man once told me that you'll never get rich chasing yields. Only by investing/trading in things that go up and down in price will you get rich.

gambling with all my EF is not something I am willing to do.

There's gambling and there is investing. Different. I have a cash reserve myself.

both gambling and investing involve risk taking. so you have your cash reserve in equities? most of mine is in hsbcdirect. some in an index fund. some in short term CDs.

this money is seperate from our investments.

do you disagree that higher APR is not better for cash reserves?

How about "laddering" your emergency reserves?

First $1,000 in local bank

$5-10K in high interest savings account

Next $20K in low risk mutual fund

Anything extra in Roth IRA's

why would you max out your roth's first (after the $1000 in local bank)?

We max out our Roth's every year on Jan 1. The list is how we would withdraw funds if needed.
