If you catch the default judgment in time. Some states have very strict time limits, after which they won't entertain a motion to dismiss or vacate for any reason. Virginia is one with a limit of two years.

Very interesting reading. It may have given me the way to vacate a default judgment. Now I just need to check NC law to see the rules on service and jurisdiction
