I have a 2nd job at a liquor store...bossman says you must ask for ID w/all CC purchases to verify it's their card...no ID, then refuse the sale.

BOSSMAN CAN GET A CLUE!!!

ID FOR THE BOOZE!!!

ID NOT FOR THE SIGNED CREDIT CARD!!!

GRANDPA (60+) USES A SIGNED CREDIT CARD...YOU CAN'T ASK FOR ID!!!

NOW 21-30 IT'S A JUDGEMENT CALL (FOR THE BOOZE NOT THE CREDIT CARD)

WAL*MART USES UP TO 27 "WE CARD"

BUT I HAVE ASKED PEOPLE FOR ID THAT I KNEW FOR A FACT WERE 25+ AND THEY ENDED UP BEING 18 THAT DAY!!!

ON THE OTHER-HAND I HAD ONE THAT I KNEW FOR A FACT SHE WAS 14...WRONG SHE WAS 20+

YOU NEVER KNOW!!!

I AIN'T GOING TO JAIL or PAYING A FINE or LOSE MY JOB FOR CANCER STICKS!!!

Believe me - I know...I told the Assist Mgr already that they're violating Visa/MC policy by doing this...she shrugged it off.

I see your in FL

IT IS AGAINST THE LAW ALSO IN FL!!!

(I THINK)--UNLESS THAT IS JUST THE SURCHARGE PART OF THE CREDIT CARD POLICY

Maybe he's a "young" 60. :dntknw:

My dad was carded at a baseball game when he was 47 while buying a beer. He hadn't been carded in over 25 years. He asked the guy if he was kidding. The guy said "No. We have to card." The guy looked like he was nearing 80. I guess all the whippersnappers under 55 are suspect at that age.

They have 7 stores here locally...I'm surprised no one has hammered them on it....

I would guess that the vast vast majority of people simply don't know. Even of those that do know, many probably don't really care. They're more concerned about getting home to watch Sopranos re-runs.

Had a guy come in a few days ago - had to be pushing 90...was making a purchase w/cash...he walked up to the counter and said "I left my ID at home - can I still buy this?" I told him I'd let him slide this time, but he looked kinda young to me!

George - I went looking on visa.com for the part that says it's policy and that visa can revoke merchant's use for not following policy, but couldn't find it...would love to show it to them.

YOUR COMEBACK SHOULD HAVE BEEN SOMETHING LIKE "WHY ARE YOU WASTING YOUR VACATION ON CREDITBOARDS"

no law in any state that says maximum age to look at id for adult beverage purchase but common sense should prevail.. if the old geezer clearly old and walking around with a bedpan I would tend to believe he is 21 and if he pays for booze with cc I wont be asking for id no matter what the salamander boss says.

THE PROBLEM IS YOU HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF THE VISA/MC RULES SO "IF" YOU GOT IN A STING I'M NOT SURE YOU WOULD BE AN "INNOCENT" PARTY

STORE POLICY CAN'T OVER-RULE CREDIT CARD POLICY

Ok..this is what I found...

Requesting Cardholder ID

When should you ask a cardholder for an official government ID? In most

cases, merchants may not ask for an ID as part of their regular card acceptance

procedures, either when a valid card is first presented or to complete a

sale. Laws in several states also make it illegal for merchants to write a cardholder’s personal information, such as an address or phone number, on a sales receipt.  You may ask for an official government ID or other personal information whenever you are suspicious about a card or a transaction. If the cardholder refuses the request or you are still suspicious, make a Code 10 call.

What would be an example legitimate suspicion?
