Just opened an account at US Bank today in Tempe, AZ free standing branch. I previously had a couple Chex entries and got all but one removed with a simple not mine dispute and called US Bank today asking if I could open an account with a NSF chex entry from 2 years ago and they told me to come in. Sure thing new account no problem. US Bank seems to be good to go!

Question:

I had was reported to chex systems by Wamu in 2006. So I went to every bank I could think of under the sun and couldn't get an account opened. In 2007 a Wamu manager opened an account for me. 1 week later it was frozen (I figured this out while trying to pay for dinner at a resturaunt). Anyways called her and she re-opened it. I havent had an issue with them since and have never over-withdrawn my account.

Well about 8 months ago I was informed that Wamu was changing to Chase. So I was a little frightened that they might close my account so I went to US Bank after reading about them and their forgiveness towards people on chex systems.

I just opened the account with $100. I took $80 thinking ahh, Ill never touch the $20 in there. I fist wanted to see if the would freeze it like wamu did to me. Well one day I was out of town and my atm card wouldn't work at a gas station (wouldnt read, old card). So I used my US bank card and filled up my tank. I completely forgot about taking the $80 out as it had been a few months. So my account was over withdrawn for by $45 plus the I wanna say $35 NSF. Well I disregarded the letters I got from the bank thinking they were just account statements and well needless to say the account was closed. So about 2 months later, I went in to the branch one day to order checks (I thought Id start using the account now) and was informed of the closed account. I then paid the balanced owed to them. I couldn't talk to the about re-opening the account then as the manager was out to lunch. I never went back and never re-opened it. Now Im kinda thinking "shoot" I should see as the complete wamu/ chase transformation is happening in the next few weeks.

Do you think US Bank would take me back?

Did you owe US bank money when the account was closed or did you pay the debt?

Yes. I ended up owing about $200 after are the negative balance fees. However I paid it off within 2-3 weeks after the account was closed.

I would guess that yes they will re-open it, maybe talk to a manager in advance before going in, explaining your situation etc. If they reported any kind of fraud to chexsystems, there is a chance they would not re-open it

are their any US Bank locations in the metro atlanta area? I looked on their site and it is a little hard to figure out since you have to click each store you want to look for a branch in.

I have a 2007 entry from suntrust thanks to a joint acct with an X. Also my current bank acct with wachovia is reported for some reason, in 2008 they closed my acct for overdrafts that were their fault, i finally go them to fix it and credit back the overdrafts and re-open the account but I am still in chex.

I have my wachovia checking acct, but I realllllly hate them. I also have a US bank credit card...lol wonder if that helps!?

Although many "in store locations" of US bank do approve those reported to chexsystems, I have never heard of anyone in Georgia being approved. Are there US bank locations there now? News to me if there are. I don't believe so.

If you are not reported to EWS, I would strongly suggest that you APPLY IN PERSON at any Regions Bank. They are not using chexsystems anymore. They are only using EWS, but if you are reported to EWS, they will deny you and possibly open the account and close it about a week later.

Associated will run a credit report and if your credit is good, they should approve you. If your credit is poor, they will most likely deny

Hey mca - i was hoping i could ask you a couple of questions...

I believe im reported on chexsystems since i was denied opening a second checking account at b of a and they mentioned their computers were showing i had a bad washington mutual account reported somewhere. (though they didn't mention anything about closing my current account) I only want to open a new account there in order to get a secured credit card. Do you think I still need to do this at a grocery store branch? Would it hurt my chances if I was just up front with them and explained my situation?

And second, If i am reading everything correctly, i should not settle the RJM ACQ CA from Washington Mutual until the 5 years have passed and its off chex. However will waiting that long make RJM pass on the account to someone else thus creating another bad account on my CRs?

RJM could indeed sell to someone else but only one of them is allowed to then show on your credit report. If they sell it and the other company reports it, RJM must remove you. How old is the account with WAMU? Bank of America might have been looking at EWS and not your chexsystems report when they denied you. Hopefully it won't come back to bite ya and they end up closing your current account with them.

As far as applying at US Bank.. yes it is best to apply at an "in store location" if you are near one. There is a list of these locations on my forum at www.chexvictims.net that people have listed there. If your account is an older one, we have been told lately that people are being approved applying online as well and that US Bank is only seeing records from the previous 2-1/2 yrs old and anything older than that they do not even see.

What is your zip code? I might be able to make a suggestion

My zipcode is 90605, i actually went through your site before I found this board. I found a US bank inside of a food for less grocery store nearby:

Whittier Telegraph CA Food 4 Less Office

13413 Telegraph Rd

Whittier, CA 90605

(562) 946-8701

So im thinking of going there to apply for a secured card and scrapping the idea of the Orchard bank secured card. Do both still pull CRs on secured CCs?

My inquiry for a new checking account with B of A was over a year ago and my account is still working. However I have never ordered checks... Im scared that would trigger something to allow them to close my account. 4 months ago my debit card started to near its expiration date, so i called and asked for a new one and they sent it a week later. So I think if i don't make any big moves ill be good there... they just won't let me open another checking account, and im guessing would also likely deny me for a secured card.

Here is the info for the RJM account which Im just now noticing has two different dates that they would be removed from my CRs... is that normal? Its also only showing up on two, its not on Equifax.

Im hoping my chexsystem report comes in the mail today so i can see what exactly it says on there.

On your credit report it will remain for 7 years unlike chexsystems is 5 years. As long as a payment is not made it will be removed 7 yrs from the date last paid which would be the date it was reported on 08-2010 from your credit report. It will be interesting to see if chexsystems has the same date

That would be a good branch to try and if I had to guess I would guess that you would have no problem being approved there. Please let me know if you try.

I definitely will try that this week after my chex report shows up. I will probably post what it says in here so that I don't walk into US bank blind.
