Some of you are probably wondering "Why?"

I try to keep all my cards at a $0 or credit balance, letting only one report a debit balance.

Since I have so many transactions, and AUs, I can only do that by constantly overpaying by a few hundred.

I think Discover depends on the amount. I had a -$1 balance on my wife's account for about 4 months until she finally made a purchase.

Ah yes, maybe I should have said "Over a $100 Credit Balance" :D

Maybe one of the mods will be kind enough to modify the title to

 You know.. I hesitated replying because I figured that's what you meant, but then I saw the $4 Lexus example. Is that for the occasional air freshener splurge?

No, that was a holdover from my Stealth Influence experiments. :P

Hah - so was my $1. I had EX frozen so the charge never fully posted. :blush2:

I had to let a HUGE balance report on Lexus.

Because the last time I underpaid by $1.00 to let one card report,

instead of reporting that $1.00 balance, Lexus just comped me the buck.

Totally untrue. Chase and citi both let me carry a credit balance for months before issuing a refund check.

My last payment to citi was on 2/10 and they finally issues a refund check on 5/7.

And I only had a recent credit on my chase BP card. It was given back to me in feb from an over payment I made back in November.

90 days seems more the standard to me.

Also PenFed was right around 90 days but rather than issuing me a check they xfered it right into my PenFed acct.

Last month my amex bcp had a credit 236 at close which was the result of returning some merchandize. Still there, less than a month though.

I wonder if i can transfer the credit to another amex. Maybe a call is in order.

I do it with BofA because my charges on it are relatively small and consistent and I don't want the hassle of dealing with a bill from them every month. So I pay 2-3 months at a time. I do this with utilities too. Usually the overage is under $100.

If people can post the amounts they are allowed to carry, that would be helpful.

Chase refunded $66.46 on 5/30 from the statement that closed 5/26

Citi refunded $74.37 on 4/21 for statement that closed 4/19

Discover refunded $100.25 on 5/26 for the statement that closed 5/26

OK, 4 days after statement close may not have been immediate.

How much were the amounts?

The citi was $141.

The chase accounts have ranged for me from $10 to $300. None come back right away. However, the card I was referring to above was at $28.

All I can say is that Citi doesn't allow me to carry credit balances on my cards.

Thanks, AmEx did allow me to carry credit balances when I had them. :D

I usually round my Chase payment up to the next highest $10 or $100. ($586.42 becomes $600, etc.) I've never gotten a check from them, but the overage has always been less than what I charge to that card in any given month. Are you saying that if I don't charge at least the amount of the excess, they'll send it back to me the next month?

I think it's crazy nuts that banks send a check for credit balances given the proactive push for everything paperless..statements etc.

I know, there must be some regulation that prompts them to cut a paper check to refund credit balances so quickly.

Until yesterday, I had been able to keep about a $100 credit balance on my Cash Plus card.

I'd been doing that for years, but something changed this statement cycle.
