4 months after completing AMEX's oasis program (paying off old AMEX CO in full) and getting the $700CL 22% APR $35 anual fee rewardless CLI-less "AMEX optima card" (call this prime:(), AMEX finally said yes to my application for an optima platinum card, A REAL AMEX. I could not believe my eyes when I saw that bold "Approved" word on the status page.

I started my rebuilding 2 years ago with a 482 FICO, 7 COs, 2 collections and 0 positive TLs. Today I still have 4 COs and 1 collection (reinserted) remaining on my EQ (the report AMEX pulled). My fico is 614 and I have 10 positive accounts reporting including 3 secured cards, 1 joint car loan, 3 AU cards and 3 store cards. I never thought I had a chance with so many baddies. Of course part of me secretely wishes "just maybe...", my sane mind tells me to accept a denial, read the reasons and work harder on them. But I guess my short history with my optima card counted (always charged near limit and PIF). They game me a real card. Although the limit is only $2000, its still my VERY FIRST INDIVIDUAL UNSECURED MAJOR CREDIT CARD in two years. With eligible future CLIs, the possibilities....endless :P:stop::stop:

Here I want to thank every contributing member of this board. Without you I'd still be in a total financial mess today. I learned everything, I mean really EVERYTHING about credit rebuilding from you guys. Just like my name says, I started over and now I'm back on track. I'm looking forward to fighting the remaining baddies off my report and stepping up to real PRIME. I have a dream that one day I could get just about any card I want from any bank, and I know it won't be far away!!

Also my :good::good: to AMEX for giving me a second chance. I know this time they won't regret it!

Congrats!!!!

How do you apply for that Optima card? I've been trying to get into the AMEX family for awhile myself and maybe that might get the foot in the door for me as well. Looked on their website but only saw your new card. :D

Thanks. That optima card is only available for those who had a previous balance with AMEX. Basically you pay off that balance in full, and in return they give you an optima card with a credit limit equals to half of the old balance. If you never had an AMEX before you cannot get the card.

I've heard from others before that even AUs are considered as an internal factor with AMEX. I'm an AU on one of my friends' starwood with 11k limit. I'm not sure if that helped or not.

Yeah, WTG for 700!

I got added as an AU before I entered Oasis. Somehow AMEX did not blacklist me from being an AU. I just got lucky.

not spitting for sure, glad for anyone who wanted back into AMEX family, that said letting AMEX debtors with out of SOL debts "get a taste of AMEX" primes them into paying AMEX debts which legally can not collect - you call it great I call it cunning - but both benefit though.

This is a dumbass question but: Are secured CCs the kind where you have to pay up front to get them. Unsecured you just fill out the app and go shop without up front paying?

Secured cards are usually credit cards that the banks secures with a deposit of your money, usually from $250 on up. You use it as a regular card and if you somehow default on the credit card, the bank has the money you sent to secure the account. Normally, the depsoit you send establishes your credit limit. So a $250 deposit of cash, will net you a $250 CL. Spend wisely.
