Be careful with this card. It is not gauranteed approval like NC is. They denied me for "Multiple COs." Elan secured is gauranteed (according to the application and multiple CSR) if you don't have a BK.

Okay its true!! :clapping: Elan will approve anyone who is over 18, doesn't have a bk less than 2 years old, and remembers to send in atleast $300. They will also call you if you have an FA on your report. Finally someone takes those FAs seriously

Ok, I see this says "can be unsecured in 12 months" -- does anyone know if that means they issue a separate card/account in 12 months, or do you keep the same account and just get your deposit back?

Also, what other secured cards will automatically turn into unsecured without giving you a separate acct/card?

You keep the same card number and get your deposit back when Elan unsecures. Most of the other prime secureds do as well but they aren't gauranteed like the Elan and National City.

I was asking about Wells Fargo? Or is that the same as Elan?

I am also trying to find the Bank Of America card I've read about... $99 for a $500 CL, but all I can find is this:

http://www.bankofamerica.com/creditcards/?...cured_plat_visa

I guess a broader question would be, which major companies graduate to unsecured without issuing a new account? If I understand correctly it is BOA, Elan(?), and I guess we I don't know about Wells Fargo yet?

I am under the impression that National City actually issues a new card and account?

Thanks!

Well if you have any COs you might want to stay away from WF and BofA until your reports are clear. You also might want to check out this thread...

Elan is, I think, a part of US bank. Silly me I had forgotten that I'd been using the WF thread to post about Elan :good:

Elan, BofA, and WF will unsecure and allow you to keep the old number and history. NC will not. You can either open a new CC, leaving the secured account untouched or you can upgrade then they close your secured card account and issue a new card.

The BofA 99/500 is offered if you are qualified. To find out if you are qualified you need to be declined for the unsecured first. If you are qualified for the 99/500 they will send you the app or I think sometimes it'll come up online immediately.

Hey, thanks for all of that great info. By saying "stay away from WF and BofA if you have a CO", are you also implying a CO is ok with Elan? I am just trying to figure out my safest bet -- and I would really like to start with a card that graduates. Thanks again!

Elan is gauranteed approval unless you have a bk in the last two years, are under 18, or don't send them atleast $300 to open the account. They do graduate.

NC has the same requirements as Elan. Only differences are NC allows you to start with $250 and NC doesn't unsecured. They give you a whole new account and then send your money back.

FYI : They only accept applications who are residing in the Wells Fargo Bank operating area or an exiting Wells Fargo banking customer. Being a resient of Georgia I can't apply for their card

Have you tried becoming one of their "internet" customers?
