  1. The first time it took about 2 years. This time it was 6 months - a year. The difference is the first time I was cleaning up my baddies and baddies from identity theft issues. This time my only problem was student loans that had gone bad and no open revolving credit lines. I had closed all of my credit cards when my life started to go to hell. I didn't want to risk having bad credit again.
  2. I've had mine frozen since 2007. I was a victim of identity theft back in 1999. So when that became an option I took it. Now, I just keep it to protect myself from having that issue again. Now I just plan my credit options and reopen for about a week every 6 months. This keeps me from impulsively applying for new credit.
  3. Okay so I've only used my Navchek twice. Both times for less than a week. Just now I was taking a look because I'm planning to use it again and I see it has a payoff balance of $1.99. I thought that was weird. But it's less than $2. So I go to pay it. But I get an error message that says, "You can't make a payment to an account that has a balance that is equal or less than zero." Okay so how do I get that payoff balance to go away? Do I have to wait until the next time I use my Navchek?
  4. Without their own income, many don't believe that they will be able to get or need their own credit. A lot of times they are handling all of the finances in the home. So they are building credit. It's just not their own... I don't see what your point is. Most apps allow you to include HHI/other sources. Also, for example, when applying for a Cap One CC, the employment status drop-down menu includes 'Unemployed' or 'Other'. I highlighted my point for you. Ignorance is no excuse. I still don't see how this pertains to my original post. Ignorance is a very valid excuse in this situation. You can reread the quoted posts to see the relevance. Have a great day!

  7. That self lending thing looks interesting. Might be useful for people that "can't" save up a deposit for a secured card.
  8. You guys aren't talking about the same thing...
  9. I don't have any advice but I wanted to say that I hate them. I've had a consolidation with them since January and I've been in some kind of forbearance or deferment three times! None of these have been at my request and they somehow can't figure out how to take me out without capitalizing the interest. I really hate them and I hope someone can help you out...
  10. I went to the AG due to one fraudulent account EX absolutely would not remove even with 40+ pages of documentation from the OC and my own file. How creative? I do have two paid VA overpayments that are reporting as 120 past due with $0 balances...
  11. Yes I froze my reports back in 2007 due to the almost 10 years it took me to fight identity theft in the late 90s. The few times I've thawed my reports EX wouldn't do it. They'd tell me they were going to but they never do. So I just permanently took the freeze off that one back in Jan. Apparently, permanent doesn't mean anything to EX. So it's back. This special rep thawed it for me for the next 30 days. So that's something I guess. I'll look up special handling. Thanks!
  12. Has anybody heard of this? What are they good for? Long story short. I called because my report is locked AGAIN. So I'm talking to this rep and he tells me that I need to speak to my personal rep to do anything. Anyway, I was forwarded to consumer affairs. He unlocked my report for me for. He couldn't or wouldn't tell me why I have a personal rep. Does anybody know anything about this? Are they helpful for things other than unlocking my report when they weren't supposed to be locked in the first place?
  13. I got this yesterday as part of a letter from my congressman. Sound like they just sent him a form/FOAD letter. Do they normally reply like that to congressmen? Maybe they'll respond with something useful soon...
  14. I have the same problem with my student loan on EX. This week it started showing closed but with a balance and current. It was my only open installment loan. I'm afraid to dispute it until after I buy my car this week. The bank I'll be using pulls EX for auto loans. So does it matter that it's showing as closed right now?
