I'm not entirely sure what went wrong because the salamanders at Juniper won't tell me..

My TransUnion Fico (mortgage optomized) is a 702, my utilization is less than 10% and I have decent credit lines on all of my accounts... Anyway, after seeing that the Carnival Sea Miles card was pretty decent, I decided to apply.

They gave me a $500 credit line and an 18%V interest rate!

What do you guys think? Why would it have been so low? Juniper says that they will not review the account for a credit line increase unless I have documentable income over $200,000 and that I cannot speak to the credit department unless I can fax in documents proving the income and that they'll call me back.

WTF?

I called the credit department at 1-866-408-4064. Determination is obviously very important with Juniper as the representative stuck by the $500 limit throughout the conversation... it wasn't until the very end when he placed me on hold to review the application that he came back and offered a $2000 limit. I suppose I'll go with the $2000 for now as it's at least usable. I need to see if I can get them to lower the APR now, though... otherwise, I'll just have to PIF.

This post has helped tremendously. I applied, waited 25 days, and on day 26 received an email regarding my new account. Pulled my report at TC, saw already reporting on EX. Logged onto the "check status" at Juniper, saw only $500 CL. Shocked, I called up telephone number in this post, had it increased to $5000. The CSR said the system basically sets the CL to an amount in line with your CLs showing on you CR. I told him my Citi's did not show correctly (AAdvantage and Divi), but those two are $15000 total. Without this post, would not have called. Also, I have noticed some posts that tell the story that Juniper will not do CLI at activation. I had not even received the card yet and they bumped it up (Note: I checked online and the CSR did bump it up to $5000).

My advice to others here...Research and gain from the experience of others. I am in this forum daily, and have been for 5 months. The strategies offered are fantastic.

I was also approved for the Carnival Sea Miles. My CL is $1250 I want to try for a higher limit. My highest card limit is $3200. I have no baddies and a 19 months positive credit history. Do I stand a chance?

IMHO while carnival Seamiles seems to be a promotional card that is easier to get, Juniper is a bit stingy with CLI. They say after six months, and they will tell you that it is a rewards card and most rewards cards int. rate is higher since there is no annual fee. Of course most of us know this is not true. YMMV.

Quick Update:

I called the 866 number today and was told no, the rep they would not increase my credit limit. Reason: Only one credit card open for one year or more. I'll try again in 3 months.
