  1. I had a similar situation, and I sent CMI a DV letter, and they removed it. I don't think it was worth fighting for an account that was already taken care of.
  2. On the Verizon bill, I'd keep trying to get it removed, especially as it gets closer. The biggest reason is so it doesn't show up on a full factual for your mortgage. If you bug them enough, they may get sick of you before it hits the actual drop off date.
  3. Oh yeah, the letters actually went out this morning. I did two separate letters so I can sue them on both if they fail to remove. I was more than a little bit angry, so i was a bit of a jerk in my letters. There won't be any niceties in dealing with this one. The funny thing is, the bills they listed are for $42 and $51 and I paid the OC $322. I honestly have no idea where they came up with these random numbers. I really kinda hope they don't do anything. I need some money so I don't have to come out of pocket for a move anyway. Why pay yourself, when you get can a dirt bag to pay for you!!!!!
  4. I returned from a lovely Christmas holiday trip, to find not one, but two new collections on my report. Both from the same company, and both for a bill that was paid to the OC in 2008. No letter, no phone call, just the new collections. I am sure I can get them both taken off, but this just doesn't seem right that they can throw stuff around more than 2 years after it was paid and cause heartburn the way they do. Just ranting, nothing more to see here.

If your husband joins, you'll be completely bulletproof. Just tell him that joining new credit unions always "puts you in the mood" and he won't be able to join quick enough.
  6. I think the Costco card is Cobranded, and if that is the case, I don't think you get it backdated on a new card. It has to be an actual amex line for which you log into amex dot com.
  7. My case was stupidity when I was younger, coupled with me taking my eye of the ball with my Ex and her spending money we didn't have and me being too wrapped up in other stuff to notice. Fast forward a couple years, and then it was a case of everything being so much of a mess, I just refused to deal with it, and lived on a cash/debit basis. Then I made a haphazard attempt to fix things, got a couple crappy toy cards, and then the same thing happened again. Rebuilding credit cards, coupled with a TON of late payments for no reason other than me just not keeping a closer eye on things, worked out to a whole lot of baddies and not mush reason to care. After finally getting sick and tired of being sick and tired, and buckling down and putting in the work to get it fixed, as well as educating myself via this board and other sources, and things are finally heading in the right direction. I think once things start to spiral out of control, ostrich syndrome sets in. You stick your head int he sand, refuse to deal with it, and hope it goes away. As things get worse and worse, you have more of an incentive to ignore it, and it spirals from there. Laziness and apathy do not a good pair make. I would sooner sell a kidney than EVER get back in that situation again, and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt, that it will simply never happen again. It's actually funny. As I now get more and more credit, I actually spend less and less. I finally realize the pain you go through by letting things get out of control, and I have vowed to never let it happen again.
  8. Huge congrats foeplay. I am so jealous. I really wanted to pull the trigger on the green pre approval mailer I got, but I have to wait until after I get the house. I hate waiting. On a side note, BW, you said you couldn't add an AU who had a corp card already? Was it because the corp card was negative,or just because it existed? If that's the case, I think there is a reasonable chance I might actually cry.
  9. I personally think you need to reassess what it is you are trying to do. I"m not sure where your scores are, but from what I can see, there isn't a "quick" fix to what you are trying to do. I am not saying this to be a jerk whatsoever, just wanted to throw that out there before I explained what I mean. You need to look at this not as something you can do in the next month, or even 2 or 3, but rather 8-12 months down the road. As it stands right now, if i am reading this correctly, you have $900 spent on $500 CL. You are way over 100% util. Even if you paid off the Amex, I don't think it's going to give you much of a boost, because you are still at 100%. Have you tried to re-open the BOA card in exchange for paying it off? That would take you down to 40% util. instantly, then you could work on paying down the Amex. If you can't afford to pay it off in full, you're still at least back under 100% and on the right track. Either way, you're more than maxed, because that BOA card balance is counting against you, even though you don't have access to the credit line. So it will be taken into account against your Amex line even if you pay off the Optima. That's instant points, or as close as you can get. Strategically, I'm not sure that's your best bet though. Opening a secured card, so that it's gaining age while you work on paying off the other 2, could serve you better in the long run. You have to add tradelines as much or more than taking care of the negatives, but a bunch of brand new tradelines won't do you too much good either. Even if you started with a $300 secured card, you'd have the line reporting. Then work on paying off the Amex assuming you don't get the BOA re-opened. Once you have that done, you still need to pay off that BOA card to affect your util better. Then you can add to your secured card, so once you get things straightened out, you can then show a card with a year or so in history, with a 1k-ish CL. As for seeing increases, the older the baddie, the less it hurts, but it's mere presence does take a toll. If you can remove all collections for instance, you will get a nice bump just based on not having any listed, but even 1 still being on there can keep you from seeing that jump, even if 4 or 5 years old. If you are unable to get that one removed, all you can really do it wait. Responders side-note - If anything above is completely off base or outright wrong, I blame the vodka. That is all.
  10. Oh thank goodness. I have been worried sick about this. On a side note, I'd like to test the theory. BW, if you'd kindly send my $99,478 I can go ahead see how it works. Thanks in advance for your help in this matter.
  11. I hope you got a screenshot of the 803. Then no matter what it says, you can be comfortable in the fact that you refuse to accept their new "reality" and you are still at 803, even if only in your mind!!! Huge congrats. Ultimately, it makes no difference whatsoever, from 797 to 803, but I have to imagine it feels pretty good anyway. =)
  12. A lot of times, scores jump for no apparent reason. You've removed 4 or 5 derogs, with very little movement, then all of a sudden an old late hits 4 years or something, and your score shoots up 20 points. Don't get wrapped up in the numbers while you are rebuilding. Continue to do the things that will help you get where you want to go, and the score really will take care of itself.
  13. My EQ score was 660ish when I applied with NFCU, and I got the same limit as it told me online when it showed approved. Mine wasn't as high as yours, but I did get what they said I would.
  14. I think you'd have a better chance of getting a higher limit with another CU, which would in turn make it sweeter when you got your next card from a limit perspective. Much of this depends on what your ultimate goals are.
  15. Combo showed up on Ex yesterday, and EQ today. No clue about TU though. I remember reading somewhere that reporting was screwy with them, but can't seem to find it now.
