Thanks so much for your reply. I called them this morning and they agreed it was a mistake. I spoke to a very nice lady in Claims who immediately sent an email to the CA that it was a mistake and to pull it off my report. I will continue checking, but I was very pleased with the way they handled this so quickly. I rent cars a lot so I will certainly save your advice should something like this ever happen again. Thank you so much.

If the rental car company refuses to admit an error, what should be my first step?
-
Also, they have placed me in a very bad situation since, even if there were damage, if they reported it to me at the time, I could have made a claim against the credit card secondary insurance and/or my regular car insurance. Now I am just out of luck.

I monitor my credit reports constantly, and also use CreditSecure monitoring service (through American Express). This morning, an alert popped up on my CreditSecure saying that a collection had been placed on my report by an 99999 Associates for $1616.00. I am very good about paying all my bills/debts so I went to the disputes website of Transunion (it is only so far being reported on TU) and it said that it had something to do with 9999 Rent A Car, from whom I have rented numerous times in the last 6 years. I called 9999 and the woman there said, by looking through my history, that there was alleged damage to a car I rented in April 2007. I told her I had never received notification of damage (Of course, I no longer have the receipt). I have never received a phone call, letter or anything from 99 OR 99999 Associates, even though I have continued to rent from them consistently over the last 5.5 years since this allegedly happened. I did not move from the address on the rental form in question until about a year later so there would have been plenty of opportunity for them to contact me there, plus I had mail forwarding AND they have always had my phone number and addresses in their records due to my membership in their frequent renter program. The woman there told me I had to call their Risk office tomorrow and/or talk to the General Manager of the DFW Airport branch. Of course, I will be calling their Risk office tomorrow, but I am just so upset over this being placed on my credit report. How can they assert a claim like this that is over 5.5 years old? They have made no attempt to contact me though they will probably argue that they have been trying to reach me all along...which would be a lie. I am just beside myself.

You with your big 12 posts. Big talker. You've got some issues.
-
I'm not being closed-minded at all. The OP has had major financial issues and owes lots of money to lots of different creditors. There is more to this story than she is letting on in this one thread. They have no reason to reopen. If she just came here to have people tell her that they will reopen, she is being unrealistic.
-
How are they being "closed-minded"? She's a bad risk.
-
Why should they re-open your card after you were 60 days late already (and probably multiple 30 day lates, too.)? They don't owe you a thing.
-
For those applying for Macy's Visa, they are pretty strict in their credit reviewing process. I remember lots of people on here being denied a while back.
-
I have both Bloomingdale's and Macy's Visa. Received my notification this weekend in the mail regarding the switch to Amex. I guess I will be getting the Macy's notification this week.

I will whine all I want, because I can. No, it wont show them, because they dont care about customers like you or me You keep supporting them. I dont have to. They don't owe you anything. Clearly, your credit was not good enough for their Visa. Get over it. Just looking at your credit scores, I have no idea where you get this indignation from!

I will whine all I want, because I can. No, it wont show them, because they dont care about customers like you or me You keep supporting them. I dont have to. Quit your frickin bellyaching. You have a long way to go in the credit world. Even Macys is rejecting you - think about that for a minute. And reduce your utilization. AMEN.
-
Big deal. You didn't get what you want. Quit your whining. As to closing your store card in protest...Yes, that'll show 'em. As for me, I LOVE the service I get from Macys.
