I PC'd my Zinc to a Premier Rewards Gold using the online message system. Very quick and easy. I told them I was interested in either the Gold or Platinum and they gave me the choice of either. Nothing to do but give your consent. Go for it!

I thought seriously about doing this, and then I teetered between that and getting the Platinum as a second Amex and canceling the good when the next annual fee hits.

The signup bonus for the Platinum may more than compensate for its annual fee.

I also wonder what time requirements Amex has for:

- upgrading a new card

- Adding a second charge card to your portfolio

That's where my research ended.

Thanks .

I called twice, was told no.

I also chated and was told no.

Reason given Card Act.

Is this one of those ( Got to get right CSR) issues or strict Policy?

I have read elsewhere that the CARD Act prohibited PCs in the first year, but I didn't want to cite that in my earlier response because I wasn't sure where I read it or how accurate it was. The idea would be to keep companies from baiting you to get one product and then switching you to one that is more advantageous to them. This is not my area of expertise, for sure. :)

I don't know if they stick to it, but the terms say you don't get the bonus if you've had a consumer charge card in the last 90 days.

I don't buy the CARD act line ... the terms are identical except for the annual fee.

I did a PC from BizPlat to BizGold a few years ago ... last month I PC'd back, took no time at all.

If you travel, the Platinum bennies are really worth it - airline lounge access (AA, DL, US) and $200 in airline fees rebated pay for it for me.

I don't think the CARD Act applies to business accounts, only personal... But again, not my area.

CARDA prohibits them from raising the fees on a trade line in the first year. By doing a PC but maintaining the TL (as opposed to opening a new TL), they are in essence performing a fee increase and they can't do it. If your did the PC a few years ago as you assert, then your recent PC would not have run afoul of CARDA.
