I was able to call them, and have them run my SSN and tell me verbally that there was no negative information about me in their database.

That's the problem with verbal conversations though... whether it is accurate remains to be seen.

The bank I have issues with is not one of their owners, so I feel somewhat reassured for now.

please note that many banks and credit unions other than those included in the ownership. I can list a few off the top of my head here

1. USAA

2. Key Bank

3. Fifth Third bank

4. Compass Bank

5. Arizona Federal Credit Union

-there are many many more that use EWS

Early Warning Services is a limited liability company owned by Bank of America, BB&T Corporation, JPMorgan Chase, Wachovia, and Wells Fargo.

how do i get my ews report?

I just called 800 325 7775 (which I got from your website, mca, thank you VERY much) and an actual human being with an American accent answered. IOW, no accent.

I asked for my free annual EWS report.

The impression I received is that she was SURPRISED to be called. Did I have a transaction number?* How did I find out about them? I thought I was in for a tongue lashing!

Then she asked me for SSN, then first and last name, and put me on mute. Then came back and asked my State. Mute again. "Nothing comes up" under my name, she said. HaveANiceDayGoodbye.

@mca

So, just verifying something that I'm totally sure of due to your website: the fact that "nothing comes up" is literally a case of "no news is goodnews"?

-Thought

*p.s. With even more reading of the website, I take it that she was used to consumers having some AA, and get a transaction# and a referral to EWS.

EWS does not like people calling in for information even though by law they are required to give it and they are considered a credit reporting agency and they must follow the FCRA.

Can you post that pdf here? I think it would be useful if it is a blank form that everyone can use.

I believe someone posted the PDF on my forum a while back but the problem is that EWS did not like everyone having it and not calling in first

They seriously have issues with thinking they are somehow above being a CRA...

When I called I asked for my report, and they acted like it was an odd request and got all hesitant. Then they told me there was no derogatory info, so I took a gamble and opened accounts with USAA. Those accounts have been open for a month with no issues, so in my case they may not have been lying.

I know that EWS really hates me because I have made so many people aware of them. They have emailed me in the past asking me to not give out their phone number, web site information and the PDF that they use to get a copy of the report. In turn I asked them if there was some way that they could make it easier for people to get a copy of their reports other than by calling them over the phone. They are well aware that people are entitled to this information but they make it difficult to say the least. I believe that they do this to avoid people from disputing.

You are exactly right and they have even told people that they are not a CRA but they do indeed fall within the definition. USAA would not have approved you if there was something reported to Telecheck or EWS so my guess is that yes you are in the clear
