I keep getting offers for cc machines, etc....I think in a house painting business, this might do QUITE well for me. Anyone accept Visa/Mastercard for their biz?

Do tell the specifics and who you use! :D

I use PAyPAl for my biz, the down side with PAyPAl is both users have to be "members" which requires you to give them banking information and sometimes credit card info. I don't think it is such a great idea for non-internet based biz to use PAyPAl a merchant account is better. You don't want your customers to have to sign up for PAyPal just to use a credit card. There are tons of merchant accounts available. Fees are based on a discount rate and require a very thorough application process, credit check and sometimes an account opened and required to carry a balance to guard against chargebacks (when customers call the CC company and say they didn't approve the charge) Just do a check for merchant accounts and you will find tons of possibilities. Costco offers merchant account services with good prices/fees.

I also ran across a service which offers credit card approvals via phone.

They seem to be easier to qualify for and you can use them in the field.

I believe there are similar services if yo do a google search.

Most of the merchant accounts like Quickbooks, Costco, Card Services International and Discover Business ask for the following information

Name, Address, DBA, SS# for owners and principals, Business Revenue, Years in Business, Tax ID, Type of business, and Web address .

I have seen merchant accounts that say No Credit Check but I don't remember any of the companies. I was told that when you apply for a merchant account your personal credit will be pulled. It has to do with the Patriot Act and to making sure that you are really running a legal business.

Do you think they may turn me down with poor credit? :?

Chase,

I'm getting the same solicitations....everyday! My current workload is paid by FNMA, so CC is not needed. But, I used to run a "pet shop" type thingy and I accepted CCs. We traveled alot to exotic animal shows, and we used the old fashioned manual "card swipers" where you make the imprint onto the carbon copy, then used the cell phone to call an 800 number for authorization. Seems like I remember that Visa and MC were basic, but you paid extra for AmX. Want to say the rate was like $10 a month plus 1.5% of transactions, and the $10 was waived if you did X amount in trqnsactions a month. The money was always in my account within 3 days, and I just passed the 1.9 along to the customers. They didnt seem to mind as long as they could use the card. They will offer you tons of extras...(to be able to check if a check is good, blah, blah, blah). You really only have to have the old fashioned swiper and a cell phone. I can't remember what compnay I was with, so you'll have to shop the best deal. I dont recall what my credit was like back then (probably much better since it was pre-divorce) and I don't know if they pulled it or not. I bet if you look hard enough, there are companies willing to deal with questionable credit for a higher transaction fee.....the price you pay until you settle that delinquent child support issue.  :P (I crack myself up!) Anywho...let us know what you decide.
