I take about 50% and buy silver and travelers checks from diversified banks, then i put it all in a 2 ton fireproof safe that is bolted to the foundation of my home. Make a ledger of all your silver bar serial numbers and 3 photo copies of your traverlers checks and put those in you safety deposit.

Silver is not a safe place to put money. It's a commodity metal, it could lose half its value in a week. That's for commodity speculators.

Also why on earth would use bother with traveler's checks? What happens when a bank that issues a traveler's check fails? Far better just to stash currency in there if dead money floats your boat.

also silver is much more reactive than gold.

If the system and the dollar collapse you can still barter with the silver and at least buy bread. Even the Bible says everyone should have a little silver on hand. As far as Silver being metal, this is true but so is gold and thats what the US dollar is backed with at FT Knox. So paper money or travelers check have no more value than the other. But if the travelers checks are stolen or destroyed I can have them replaced and you can't say the same for a dollar bill.

Um, we've been off the gold standard since 1971.

What are you a time traveler from 1908? No country in the world backs up their currency with precious metals anymore. Every country has long since dropped its supposed gold-standard.

Anyway, you're not talking about a safe haven for cash savings, you're talking about survivalist planning in case civilization collapses. God knows how much money people have wasted preparing for the end that never comes, but, OK -- if it makes you feel better.

But instead of buying silver you should buy toilet paper. Don't know why people don't mention that, but when the balloon goes up and everything falls apart and the paper factories shut down, my toilet paper will be worth a LOT more than your silver.

Besides, I'm not going to barter for your silver. I'm going to shoot you and help myself to your silver. And any toilet paper you still have around your double-wide.

I've never seen what the point was, especially since we have credit/debit cards now. Checks in general are quickly becoming outdated.

Hi Kevin,

Actually, I am a time traveler from 2050 thats why its always easy to get Art Bell fruitcakes like yourself all wound up over nothing. You sure do use a lot of toilet paper Kevin, but from what I hear people from Texas are really full of S^%$ so I get it. Its funny how when you use the word God for anything it seems to inferiate the atheist! Hey, no worries though Kevin your in the right place here and there are many kind souls here to help you unless being a bully is what your here for then you can go join the Soldier of Fortune chat room where you can threaten peoples lives and get sand kicked in you face. Kevin I don't know about trailer parks as I havn't been up to visit your neck of the woods, but you might want to stick to robbing a super Walmart as they carry those big family paks. Finally Kevin, I assure you that your not a fast enough to shoot me before I plunge my K-Bar deep in your chest and If you think thats its ok to act like an flowers and try to push around people on the board that are new to this forum you better try it with someone else Cup Cake.

If it comes to a point where money has no value, and everyone is digging in the backyards for precious metals to barter for bread, I will be safe knowing that my ar-15 is loaded along with myy shotgun because it will truley be a savage world to live in.

I don't plan to be around in 2415.
