Not sure if this has been asked before (I did do a search), but I recently got denied for a Citi Professional card for the following reason:

"Your credit bureau report shows you have no revolving accounts with a balance"

What gives??

Should I call in for a reconsideration? If so, what should I tell them? Thanks in advance.

If you have other available credit, they may be thinking why does he need our Citi card if he is not using his other available credit. I am not saying it is a good reason however.

Citi would like to call you ..." hey big spender"...but they can't, so they won't give their card :beee:

So paying off balances in full every month is not necessarily a good thing?

What if I called in, telling them that I intend to do a large balance transfer.

I would freakin PFB them if calling does not work..That has got to be the most ridiculous reason I have heard in a while...

Well, at least they didn't give you a stupid reason like "Too much available credit".

Oh, wait ...

Anyway, I'd call just to see how they explain not offering you their card just because you're not using the competition's cards.

...and if you owed $5 on each of 20 other cards you would be DENIED for excessive accounts with balances

No balances indicates you PIF before the statements cut. And Citi don't like that.

PIF is OK.

I don't think it would make a difference on the balance transfer. Have you had your other revolving accounts long (is your credit established)? They usually only mention "no rev accts with a balance" when you are new to credit/not established and then they would recommend starting with a Dept Store card.

I'm 23 and I opened my first credit card when I was 18. I recently opened a AMEX Blue Cash with $15k limit. I also have a BOA Alaska Airlines card (opened when I was 18) with a $15k limit. Other cards I have include a Cap1 Platinum ($1100 limit) and a Chase Flexible Rewards ($2.5k limit). Other than that, I do have some student loans and a car loan.

They checked Experian and my score was 735 last month right before I opened the Blue Cash card.

I really wanted this card so I could experiment a little with a mini app-o-rama... I guess I'll be giving them a call first thing tomorrow morning.
