I am working on several medical collections on my CR's.

One of the accounts is for the hospital's "Inpatient Physicans Group" ... the billing shows a payment address in another state. However the provider is local.

Do I send the HIPAA letter with payment to the "Inpatient Physicans Group" to the address on the statement (which is presumeably a third party billing service), or do I need to determine the medical groups local office address and send it to the local office???

You need to send the HIPAA letter DIRECTLY to the healthcare provider............not the billing office/payment center.

Send it ATTN: Legal Dept/HIPAA compliance officer.

Thanks Trish ... I actually saw your reply in a related thread just after I posted this question ...

<sigh> Now ... to figure out how to find the providers office address.

Ok ... finally back to this and I still am not sure where to send the HIPAA letter.

I called the "billing office" in the other state. They refused to give me an address for the providers office. So, I called the hospital and asked if they had an address for this group? They responded to just send any letters to the hospital itself to the attention of X who is the 'manager' of the doctors.

Well, I thought that I would dig a bit deeper and look at the status of "Inpatient Physicians Group" with the state Secretary of State's office. I discovered that the "Inpatient Physicans Group" is a dba for the hospital itself. So, should I send the HIPAA letter to the 'manager' at the address provided by the hospital, or should I send it to their corporate registered agent? Or any other ideas??? TIA!
