Why Opt Out????

The title pretty much says it all....

 

The advice is to opt-out, delete old addresses, etc...

 

But why? Is it imperative to opt-out?

 

I understand that opting out is important before shopping for a mortgage so that bogus collection accounts do not hit your CR preventing a timely closing of a mortgage... but why on these medical disputes?

 

I really do not mind being solicited ... I have no issues that can legitimately pollute my report ... I am not going to be shopping for a mortgage any time soon ... so why opt-out?

 

Please, any light shed on this would be greatly appreciated!

There is a "sticky" on the subject in the "newbies" section.

 

In short, opting out prevents data miners from accessing any changes in your life and selling the information to garbage CA's.

 

Unless you want to see all sorts of old accounts, that may or may not be yours pop up when you least expect them, opt out.

 

Once you get your credit completely cleared up, and a year or so has past, you can opt back in if you want the "offers", but remember, you will, IMO, do better obtaining new credit if you are the one doing the choosing instead of waiting for "pre-approvals".
