Below is some detail from my Experian credit report. Besides blowing my own horn :P I thought that those of you who study the scoring system might find some things of interest. Despite the 835 score you can see that not everything is "perfect"... there are a few accounts with very low limits, one of which appears to have gone over limit once, one of the cards was closed at credit grantor's request.

Note that there are still some tradelines listed that are over seven years old. Since they are not negative tradelines they are not removed as quickly.

Target has recently "upgraded" me to a 10K Target Visa but this is not listed yet.

Experian lists two negative factors: "You have too many accounts that were recently opened" and "You have a relatively high number of accounts with balances" Go figure.

Note: There are no negative items and no inquiries on this report.

Just from looking at your report, one thing becomes very clear. Even though you have had access to a lot of credit over the years, you've rarely -- with the exception of a couple accounts -- ever used anything near your available credit.

What's more, you have age -- something that my report lacks.

The $79 was the last reported balance because they reported after the last statement but before I paid it. The other revolving account is actually a home equity line of credit. In reality, it's my mortgage because I used the HELOC to pay off the mortgage back in 2002.

Well, there's a couple of old accounts there - especially the ones owned by CITI -that seem to have amnesia about how close to the limit I once was. Though that was in the mid-90's. At that time I was doing balance transfers out the wazoo to stay above water, which is how I wound up with several of these accounts.

Regardless, it's a pristine record. Congrats.

There was someone that posted a couple of days ago that they had an 804 score with only 3 accts reporting, one from 1992 I believe and 2 opened in 3/06. That was simply amazing to me because I thought to get anywhere near 800 you had to have lots of age as you have. It did turn out she had a split file but nonetheless the 804 score was calculated based on those 3 accts.

Could be. The only report that has an inquiry on it (4/05) is TU, and they're the ones that don't have me in the 800 club. Then again, there are some other differences too. For example, TU and EQ are reporting my conventional mortgages (paid off via HELOC in 2002). But EX doesn't list them at all.

Do you only really use 1 or 2 of the cards every month?

Sometimes I don't use a credit card all month. But usually I use one or two. There are things I order online, I charge those. And anything I order via phone I use credit cards for. I also use credit cards when I'm travelling, though I haven't really done much of that in the last year and a half.

More often, I use my debit card.

The "secret" to 800s is perfect payment history, good mix of credit, zero util, and plenty of age.

I had reports like that back in the dot.com days...I really miss those days...livin' large and lovin' life! :good:

heloc is devistating to scores

There's a HELOC on this report, though, not devastating at all. The different CRA's all seem to treat it differently in terms of description. (It's the Wachovia account)

Yeah, it's not hurting your scores because you only owe $13K on a $100K CL. Most people get a HELOC to pay off other debts, so the loan starts out maxed, and makes a huge dent in your scores, trust me!

I got mine to pay off my mortgage. Interest rates were falling at the time, and there were about $80 worth of closing costs to pay off the last 75K of my old 8% mortgage. It is prime minus point four so the loan got down to as little as 3.6% when the fed was at its lowest. It's climbing now but the principal is low so it's no big deal.

Nice...I refi'd my condo a few years ago when interest rates were rock bottom...got a 3.99% 5/1 ARM...no points...I miss my $450/month mortgage payment!

I agree with tampa what is helping you now was killing you when it was 98,000/100,000 that's when it took the 50 plus points lol

In my case it was only slightly over 75K balance. I took it as a 100K credit line to save a quarter point interest. I could have gotten a higher line had I requested it.
