One red flag to consumers is they wanted ("needed") to check credit before quoting the price of the car. If many or most of the cars on a dealer lot are not marked with a cash price, you should shop somewhere else. If you are interested in a car not marked with a cash price, the salesman should be willing to tell you the price immediately without knowing who you are or what kind of credit you have.

This probably doesn't apply to non-compliance issues, but I had a similiar issue with price disclosure at 2 different lots in KY the last time I was buying a truck.

 

The first lot, refused to tell me their price until I test drove and "filled out some paperwork". I told the guy, I wasn't interested in test driving unless I knew the vehicle was in my price range, and I didn't need to fill out any paperwork because I already had my financing. They wouldn't budge. Deal lost for them.

 

The second place, I told the salesman I wanted the price on a few vehicles that caught my eye, he said he didn't have the price sheet and only the managers have them. I told him to get one and as we walk the lot, I would ask the price of vehicles as I saw ones I liked. He said that's not how we do things here. I explained to him, I am the customer, we can either do it MY way or no deal. He wouldn't budge. Deal lost for them.

 

I just didn't get it. I had financing in hand and told them, as long as we find a vehicle I like and the price fit, I would drive away. I was a sure sell. Oh well, another dealer in the area got my money. I made sure I drove by and waved at each of the salesman after I had my new truck the next day!

that isnt what they are talking about. and a lot of dealers will do what you are talking about and dont care if they pass on a few deals unfortunately. its called the hard sell im surprised you werent t'owed to another rep
