so i call Papa Johns Pizza (in San Diego) to place an order for carry out. i could have ordered and paid online via papajohns.com, but i had a physical coupon cheaper than what was posted. so when i arrive to the store, they have signs requiring government issued IDs for all credit card and check transactions and it's posted in the side counter as part of their procedure. i didn't feel like hassling the store today so i just showed ID, but just now reported them to mastercard. hopefully i can find online forms for Visa and Amex so i can report to them too. i realized i could have easily not shown ID and still got my way since the pizzas were already made. either that or they take a loss, but in a way it would have been a small loss for since i don't get the food i wanted.

it's stupid how they require ID for carry out, but if i were to call for a delivery or paid online, i wouldn't be asked for ID at all.

You should have told them that they can accept it without the ID or have NO SALE.

Besides, there is better Pizza than papa Johns out there... but i see your point about not wanting to be bothered with having to go elsewhere.

i personally prefer pizza hut as the best chain pizza, but i wanted to split the bill with my sister who wanted papa johns. i would have definitely walked if eating by myself.

like someone said in another thread, san diego has alot of places that don't follow visa/mc terms. i think 80% of the places in SD will ask for ID. i usually don't show my ID when asked and still get my way. i just gave in too easily today.

Must be a regional or store policy. I just got some Papa John's yesterday (in MI) and the cashier had my CC for a total of maybe 5 seconds. Just swiped and threw it back to me.

Papa John's is wrong to ask you for ID, and if you're hungry enough to order pizza then you should just show ID and get your pizza because you're hungry

you can always file a complaint after you've had your pizza!

usually pizza is a small purchase so it's not a big deal, there are bigger more important purchases to fight over not showing ID

mmmm pizza, I'm gonna have to start cooking in a while I'm hungry! :)

Thats what I always say to all these people here who ENJOY showing ID.. If you order online, on the phone, or mail order- No one ever even sees your card, let alone ID. So why do they need it in person.

Personally I have only been asked for ID when I accidentally did not sign a new card. Then I showed ID and signed it right then. I have never been IDed for a signed card, but I'm sure ti will happen sometime. And I will refuse.

With San Diego so close to Mexico (and the whole fear of terrorists crossing at that particular crossing), perhaps there is a reason they are asking for ID. You can never rule out VISA/MC doing their part for Patriot Act (after all the credit card companies are in bed BIG TIME with the Republicans). Hahahaha.

Seriously, Pizza Hut does it like this:

-- If you order online or call it in, they will ask for the 3-digit code (or 4-digit code for Amex) on the card. I believe you only have to do it once, unless you opt for a different card.

-- No ID is required upon delivery (at least I've never had it happen).

-- Your card is imprinted upon delivery. Some drivers have little portable devices. Others use a pen and the door to rub it.

-- ID will be required for a check purchase and they usually prefer either the DL or phone already imprinted (than they ask you to write in the other ahead of time).

-- They are one of the few to take cash, check or charge for delivery. Some places are strictly cash only for delivery (one place was seriously ripped off years ago and requires pickup for check/charge).

A little off the main topic but I thought this would be funny to share:

A friend of mine took a little girls softball team for ice cream after a game. They all ordered their ice cream cones and were sitting happily eating and he went to pay for the bill with a $50. They said they couldn't take a $50, lol. The bill was like $30-40 so it wasn't like he was paying for ONE ice cream, lol.

He says "well, what do you want me to do? They're all eating!" Kid says to give the ice creams back ROFLMAO. So all the girls had to line up and return their ice creams, lol. At which point the kid threw them all away.

What an salamander!

Hmm, Dont they have to accept a $50 because its legal tender?

$50 & $100 CAN BE DENIED

We did at the gas station YEARS AGO

(WE HAD SIGNS ON ALL THE PUMPS)

Some people still didin't understand...

We were NOT a bank!!!

Same thing as a BUS has a right to REFUSE all paper money...

Any business has a right to REFUSE all pennies...

THERE WAS A LINK ABOUT REFUSING CERTAIN MONEY ON HERE BUT I DON'T HAVE TIME TO DO ANY HOMEWORK RIGHT NOW...

I think you missed the point of the original post. If you have an $11 food tab, they'd happily take a $20 and give you $9 change. If you have a $41 food tab, what's the difference in taking a $50? It's still $9 change. You're not acting as "a bank". I understand not wanting to give $30-40 change, but it's moot when the bill is above $30 on a $50.

BTW.

Anyone who has ever lived in Chicago will tell you that Papa Johns is NOT THE BEST PIZA!!!

I miss those deep dish style pizzas....only pizza ever that was better re-heated...sort of like lasagna.

THEY COULD HAVE TAKEN IT FOR $30--$40...I WOULD HAVE!!!

For some reason they chose not to...

Same thing with my SUBWAY experience...they made the food BUT REFUSED TO SELL IT TO ME WITH-OUT ID ON MY SIGNED CREDIT CARD...THEIR LOSS!!!

Why did you pay with 3 credit cards? They could always come back at you and say you made a false statement and cost them fines. And they would have rock solid proof (Video cameras, credit card transaction).

i'm not reporting charges for three cards. i'm reporting the situation to all three, but only my Amex card was used.

I live in Ohio, and many stores are doing this now. I can pay at the pump for gas with no ID, If I go in I have to show it. Once I said "who are you? The Visa Police? The girl smirked and YELLED It is VISA's POLICY." Whatever

Report those salamanders for violating policy and then trying to tell you checking ID on a signed card was policy.
