Received the letter from EQ today.

They deleted 1 account.

The other 3 accounts are responded to as follows:

We have reviewed your concerns and our conclusions are:

The disputed NCO financial /2415 is currently not reporting on your EQ file. (I don't know how this happened but I screwed up and did not put the account number, I don't even know what these numbers represent. I saved a copy of each letter I sent, I reviewed the original and yep I put 2415 and that is NOT the account number from NCO). How can I fix this? Just redispute and explain that I made a mistake while typing?

CBofP: Verified that this account belongs to you. They give the name and number of the CA to contact if I still question the account.

Okay, so I've sent off most of Medical DV's to the "verified" accounts. I'm particularly concerned about one of the letters though as it is my current health provider/insurance company (Kaiser). Do you know if the hipaa process will cause any problems with my coverage? Perhaps it's a silly concern, but I worry that Kaiser could drop our coverage over this. I am a member of CalPers and am employed through the state and have Kaiser through my employer. You're "unintended consequences" got me thinking...so I'm curious about your thoughts on this. I have the letter ready for Kaiser but haven't sent it quite yet. Additionally I could not find an address for Kaiser's Hipaa Compliance Dept. I have the envelope addressed to the address that is on a different Kaiser bill (same type of service, so I am pretty sure that this original bill would have gone to the same location). I was going to add in "Attn: Hipaa Compliance Dept".

Got the update from EX yesterday, most accounts were verified. 2 were deleted. 6 of them are for Kaiser. When the initial "hipaa screw up" occurred they CA did send us copies of the bills. It was over a year ago and the CA is still the same. Do we need to resend the medical DV or can we skip ahead and send payment.

Basically it goes like this:

DV sent 8/2011 to CA

CA verified w/copies of bills 9/2011

CRA's disputed w/hipaa (properly) 8/2012

EX verified 9/2012 (these account were only on EX)

From what I have read and what I understand I believe in most instances the next step is the DV, but since the CA has not changed and they provided proof of relationship w/the OC I'm assuming we can move forward with the payment.

Thanks for all the help WhyChat. We're hoping this is the end of our hipaa journey. Aside from this set of med collections we have 4 more we are waiting for responses from. Starting to see light at the end ofthe tunnel!

I suggest you double check your EOMBs before you pay the OC .

I see no problem with your going ahead and paying on those accounts to the OC with the HIPAA letter insert "a",where you KNOW it is the same original CA.

On 8/6/2012 I sent off the medical dv's to CBoU for 2 accounts, so far no reply and they have not been removed from EX, and were added to EQ (TU deleted). The CA signed for the DV on 8/9/2012, so I believe there is still a day or two they have to respond, assuming that they had 30 days plus mailing time. If I don't receive anything from them in the next few days what would be my next course of action? I'm also curious, with non-medical DV's I understand that a CA is not required to provide proof of the debt after the 30 day period following the dunning letter. Does this apply to medical accounts as well?

Did you send the follow up dispute letter to the Ex and Eq??

I just sent the letter to EX, I did not send one to EQ since I didn't send them the pre hipaa dispute. These accounts were not on EQ to begin with, the CA added them to EQ when TU deleted. It has now been over 30 days plus 5 days for mailing since the CA received the dispute. I'm assuming I wait and see with EX, but for EQ should I send a pre hipaa or a modified version of the CRA follow up? When I say modified, I mean that I edited one and removed "as per your instructions in your response of xx/xx/xxxx to my dispute of xx/xx/xxxx", since I didn't dispute w/EQ of course there was no response about these 2 accounts.

Send the initial dispute to Eq.

I finally got the response to the medical dv from CBoU. They only addressed one of the two accounts, but did include a printout including signature. I'm going to go ahead and send payment w/insert A on that one tomorrow. I'm figuring I should wait a day or two as they may have sent the information in 2 different letters.

A bit of an update and new question....

I sent the Medical DV's to the remaining CA's and received back proof of current relationship from all but 1. Send Hipaa payments with insert A and now waiting to check this upcoming week.

The one that I did not receive anything back from was to CBoU, they had 2 accounts, one with a hospital the other with a med center. They provided the statement printout from "Our client, This Hospital", but never sent anything regarding the medical center. I am just assuming here, but I do think CBoU is a CA not a JDB. The bill is only $50, should I go ahead and send the hipaa insert a, send a follow up letter to try to get the proof of current relationship, or something else entirely?

Thanks again WhyChat, your help has been incredible.

Oh, so frustrated here! I mailed off the payments w/hipaa insert a. Sent them CMRR...I checked online to find that the letter to Kaiser was still at my post office. Called USPS and they said that was strange and looked into it. Long, long story shortened the automatic sorter put the letter into Kaiser's file box and it was never signed for and no tracing that they received it. They, Kaiser, did cash the money order though. USPS has offered to refund the fee...lol. I'm hoping in the grand scheme of things this is all going to work out but they never signed for because of USPS mistake. Any ideas on what I should do, or even can do? I'm hoping that the Kaiser collections just go away this week but if not...?

Well, since they received the money order and deposited it, that is certainly proof enough of their receipt.

Your next step is to do the follow up disputes, ( follows insert "c" in the HIPAA letter program.)

I've got another question...

I've mailed the Hipaa insert a letters and payments to 2 OC's, both have been deposited, none of the accounts deleted or even updated on Experian. The date of the letters/payments was10/25, both received and deposited by the 31st, so it's been nearly 2 weeks. I am sending the follow up letters. My question is these are all to Experian for 6 different accounts, 5 with one OC/CA and 1 with the other. Do I include both on one letter, send two different letters or write two letters for each CA/OC and enclose in one envelope? My understanding is that if I send 2 letters to Experian they will add 15 days to the dispute process, but if I include them both in one letter it seems to make it long and a bit confusing. Right now I have 2 letters I plan to enclose in one envelope but wanted to check before I send them off.

Thanks!

I sent off the follow up letters to OC and CRA's, no responses thus far and no updates to reports. At what point would I send the Courtesy Letter? and/or file the Hipaa Complaint(s)? It's been under a week since I mailed those off, not antsy to file any complaints, I'm just hoping these will get deleted soon, I guess I'm curious about the timeline of this stage. I'm figuring 2 weeks from the date they received the follow up would be sufficient time to then send the courtesy letter, is that a safe assumption?

A bit annoyed right now. I had to call to check on delivery status because it wasn't showing on usps.com, turns out EX returned the letter claiming the address as incorrect. I should receive it back today, and will resend, any suggestions which address to use? I used Experian P.O. Box 9532 Allen, TX 75013.

Use the address on your reports, send it certified only.

Ok, will do.

New issue, I just checked backdoor on EQ and one of the accounts that I paid with the hipaa insert a has been updated (original bill was $50) interest was at $10. I paid to the OC and now it shows $50 paid, balance of $10. EQ received the follow up letter on 11/14 as did the OC. Should I give this a week or two or is there something else I should be sending them? It is still showing as a collection from the CA.

Oh boy, I really think I need an award for not paying attention this year :(

I sent off the follow up letters on the 13th. I was just reviewing the letters I sent and I made another mistake. Because I was dealing with 2 different CA's I copied and pasted the letter and just changed the CA and OC's....problem is that on the Equifax letter I only changed the top line. The second line refers to a different CA and OC that aren't on EQ at all (only on EX). Is this going to cause problems?

Great...:( Would you think it would cause big issues or *hopefully* it stays on my report as a paid collection? It was just for 1 account on EQ, the total was $50. Obviously I don't want any to remain, but if it turns out I completely blew it I just hope there aren't bigger problems caused by my lack of attention.

If you are disputing an account to a CRA that is NOT on that CRA report, you will get a response from them that the item is not reporting.

Once you receive THAT reply, double check your report ( back door) to see what is still there and resend the "follow up dispute" letter properly if needed.

Today, 4 out of 5 of the Kaiser accounts on EX changed to paid/closed (still as collection). Not sure why the 1 isn't updated to paid. Regarding those accounts, I have already sent the follow up letter to the OC and to EX (Ex was wrong address and returned), sending the follow up to EX's proper address tomorrow. Should I also send the courtesy letter to the OC or is it still premature for that step?
