I googled FTC complaints and found that 23322 complaints were filed about CRA's between 2004 and 2007.

That is roughly 7700 complaints a year, HOW MANY does it take to get something done? 99999?

It goes on to say that normally after a complaint about a CRA is file the consumers see the results they intended.

Mine have not been resolved, I have 3 complaints out, TWO for EX and one for EQ

BUT on their web site it clearly states and I QUOTE "The FTC does not resolve individual consumer complaints."

I have never heard back from them. Except for the usual generic "thank you for your concerns" letter.

But think of CAMCO and NCO.

It just takes enough people to complain. Who knows what the magic number is though.

7700 in one year? That isn't enough? OH wait, the FTC is a Gov't agency, NEVERMIND!

;) if you look at it statistically for the number of credit transactions and also number of consumers and the number of credit files out there, 7700 is not statistically significant.

Also, if you look at the types of complaints, are there actual damages? is it just failure to respond? etc.

Now, look at how many members there are of CB. Let's assume 25% are in the active/very active category. If each one of those members bothered to send in an FTC complaint EACH time their rights were violated (a real violation, not some of the crap that is complained about), think of the impact of that number.

I'm curious how many time you've complained to the FTC?

If someone is going to lament the lack of action by the FTC, let's make sure the same person(s) is doing their part in being part of the solution.

I have filed 3 in the past 6 months so far all have gone unanswered.

My complaints were about EX NOT properly investigating accounts in dispute as well as reporting an address pertained to a business that I NEVER OWENED in a place I didn't live in until TEN yes 10 years after the business was opened they refused to remove it.

EQ complaint was about the reaging of accounts AND not properly disputing accounts. You CANNOT tell me that in ONE DAY they can REINVESTIGATE an account when I privoded confirmations numbers of previous report showing where the mistake is and when it was made. ONE DAY, letter sent on the 17th results dated the 18th.

I am about to file yet ANOTHER complaint for EQ stating the WRONG FCRA section for how long negative accounts will report according to what field, (WHICH BTW they were sued and LOST in Louisiana for this exact same reason)

Thanks Hun, you are ALWAYS a wealth of infomration BUT my complaints are not with the FDCPA, they are within the FCRA.

not everything I posted in this thread is about you ;) the FTC complaint issue IMO is bigger than the issues in the OP.

but since you asked, it does look like the FTC has taken recent action on FCRA violations:

2006 Report to Congress on FCRA dispute process

2008 Complaint Referral Report

background to the complaint referral program

(2007) CREDIT REPORTS: CONSUMERS’ ABILITY TO DISPUTE AND CHANGE INACCURATE INFORMATION

I could seriously keep going, but what's the point?

In short, people (not necessarily just the OP), should stop and think about the bigger picture and what FTC complaints can do not only for you and your report, but consumers in general.

As far as people not doing their part by filing complaints when they really should, I think we ALL and I mean EVERYONE on CB that has a legit complaint to be filed to it all in ONE DAY, I bet that will get someones attention if the get 1000 complaints IN ONE DAY! or even 50 or 100, something for them so see and go WHOA!

This is my point, ONE person alone cannot get the FTC's noses out of their coffee cups and wall street journals, I wish I could sit in an office and DO NOTHING and make a big fat paycheck like they do, they do it becaue they have nothing better to do, there are no complaints to investigate, I think we all should give them something to do.

Why don't they ever post up to date information?

Everything I read is form 3 years ago, what happened to being in the know NOW?
