  1. It's better than no increase, at all.
  2. So all these other so called "student debt helpers" for loan consolidations and claim to help you get out of default and what not are probably not a good idea? My roommate is wanting to get her loans back on track and is considering loan consolidation but with a company called, Student Debt Helpers that said she will be out of default in 90 days and able to get loans again if she wants to go back to school. Is this even legit?
  3. I just called my bank and they put a stop payment on it and I was told it would be $28 which is fine with me. It will stop future debits from this company.
  4. Ok. In the meantime, while I start the process of looking for an attorney, should I call them or make some kind of contact and let them know I know it's illegal? Is there a way my bank can maybe put a stop to future debits from them? Because now that they have this info, they will continue to debit my account. I just don't understand how they got that info. I don't even have checks for this account because I refuse to get any because I don't want to mess this up again. I got the new bank to give my employer a letter for direct deposit.
  5. Hi all, I have a payday loan with cashadvancenow on an old checking account. I closed that account and stopped my direct deposit at that bank and moved to a credit union. I just looked at my online banking and saw there is a pending direct debit from them for the full amount. I have had this account for less than 90 days and, in order to break the cycle of the endless debiting out of my last account, I moved to a credit union(different bank completely, not even a big bank). I haven't given that account and routing number out to any company BUT my employer for direct deposit. My question is: how did they get that info? Can they could do that without my permission?
  6. Only thing I got was my own money deposited today...
  7. Wow this scares me too! I, too, have a USAA checking account that I opened a year ago. Not military eligible but heard it was opened to all so, I applied anyways and was approved. I opened a savings account this past Friday and it is now, my sole account but reading all of these posts abt their accounts being closed after a certain amount of time freaks me out! However, I dont do major business through these accounts like New Girl does. I dont have loans, insurance or cc's with them. I might still need to consider moving my funds elsewhere just in case! NewGirl...I really hope you get your money back...SOON! Having to deal with something like this, I can see how one would lose faith in banking institutions. Good luck to you and keep your head up!
  8. I've been reading through the slew of threads about defaulted loans(rehab, consolidation etc.)I have over $20,000 in student loans and they have been defaulted and in the garnishment stage. The Department of Education now has garnished my refund checks as well as 15% of my wages. I contacted the CA handling my account and they gave me 3 options: 1). Request a hearing, 2).Pay a certain amount for 6-9 months while still being garnished(after those months,I will be out of default and eligible to be re loaned again should I chose to go back to school) and, 3). Consolidate I like the idea of paying a certain amount for a few months but paying that and having my wages garnished every 2 weeks is a bit much for me at this point. Since there is NO set amount they take out, the more I make, the more they take out. I would like to get this in gear because I would like these garnishments or one of them to stop so I can catch up! Any suggestions on where or how to start would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!
  9. Ok. I noticed this while searching for Alliant Credit Union Alliant and this Alliant. Obviously, two different CU's, right? Which one are you guys referring to mostly in these posts?
  10. I joined the American Consumer Council for free which now makes me eligible to join some CU's including Lockheed and NASA Federal CU. I have yet to apply for checking or apply for any loan or credit with any of them. I am going to try for some of the popular ones that are stated on the forum because you guys have them broken down by credit pulls and, if chexsystems is checked or not.
  11. Ok. Will do. I applied at my hospitals CU and they denied me because of something reported to chexsystems Oh and, as of now, Compass is still open, just a little update.
  12. I checked EWS a while back and, the lady said she saw nothing reported but that doesn't mean the account won't be closed, banks can be shady. I did fund the account today with THE minimum deposit. I will see in a few days what the outcome is. By the way, slightly off topic, mca do you happen to know of any good credit unions for people that work in healthcare?
  13. IME (and in no particular order) Alliant - Good overall CU, easy to get into, fairly easy to get credit, great eDepositPlus (deposit checks from home scanner) Navy Federal - IF you can get in, easy credit Penfed - Easy to get in, hard to get credit unless you have excellent reports I have other CU's but the above are the ones I like best. You might also look at PSECU. Lots of info on them in other threads here. Thanks! I will check these out.
  14. Never dealt with a credit union before. In fact, personally, I know one person that banks with a local credit union. Out of this entire list, what would you guys consider the top 5? I am interested in banking with them because I would like to get some good loan rates for school and home loans. Thanks in advance!
