  1. HSBC 'reviews' customer accounts HSBC is reviewing nearly 300,000 customer current accounts to assess whether or not they should be closed. The bank said it was undertaking a review as a fraud prevention measure. It wanted to be sure the accounts were being used for the reasons given by the customer at the time of opening. Following the review the bank has written to 27,000 customers telling them to take their business elsewhere within 30 days. The issue came to light when Working Lunch viewer Jeremy Khan contacted the BBC after his bank told him his account would be closed. Mr Khan said that he was given no reason for the closure of his account, and feels he has been left in the dark. He received a letter telling him his account with HSBC was being closed in 30 days. It asked him to cut up his cards and return his cheque book. He contacted the bank but could get no response, other than that a review had been done of the general operation of his account. "I feel like I've done something wrong and I don't know what it is," Mr Khan told BBC Working Lunch. Bank rights Under the UK banking code, banks have the right to close customers' accounts just as long as they give 30 days notice in writing. "Banks are under no obligation to give the customer the customer a reason. Usually, the customer will be told, where possible, why the account has been closed," Paul Ross, British Bankers' Association spokesman, said. HSBC has 8.5 million current account holders in the UK, and told the BBC they are reviewing 270,000 accounts which are being "operated in a manner contrary to the details given by the customer". "In 90% of cases, our review identifies understandable reasons why the disparity has arisen and no action is taken," the bank added. Bank customers who do not have a history of bad debt should not have their credit rating affected by an account closure. However, it is recommended by experts to talk regularly to a bank, and inform them of any changes in circumstances. Unhappy customers should go through the bank's complaints procedure to resolve any issues, with the financial ombudsman service being available as a final resort. 2. As with FICO ymmv but my 12 year mortgage magically appeared on Equifax about 3 months ago and it gave me a 40 point increase!
  3. I had been looking at the Inspiron E1705 Notebook for the past three days; reg price is listed at $1499. My catalog has it for $1249. Yesterday's online deal was $1199. I checked again this morning and it was part of that "10 days of deals" special and I got it for $899. I'm VERY happy that I waited and didn't impulse buy!!
  4. With Patelco, my paycheck is deposited on a Wednesday.

I just called to cancel and was told that the reason I couldn't pull my daily report was because they were doing a system upgrade. I wish that would get their dang stories straight!
  6. QUOTE(quietspice @ Mar 21 2005, 02:18 PM) I'm stumped, can someone answer this for me: On 2/26 I applied for DH online. He got the "call this number" to verify info but he didn't make the call. Today in the mail he gets a denial and the reason was they couldn't verify his SS#. I told him to call and he gave him his SS#; they said the number on the online app wasn't even close to what he had just given them and that he would need to reapply. He told me that I may have put my SS# in when I filled out the app for him. I double checked his EQ inquiries on PG and they did pull his credit. Is there another way they could've pulled his credit without his SS#? Should I have him try calling and getting another CSR? SS# NOT NEEDED TO PULL NAME ADDRESS DOB is good enough... Thanks GEORGE

  8. If you filed in Nov 95, your 7 years are up. I'd dispute as obsolete.
  9. Does anybody know when the IRS actually does there bulk direct deposit?
  10. When my own $1 2-month trial ended and I wanted to be charged "monthly" instead of the big lump sum, the CSR told me that they didn't have a monthly plan.........Go Figure!
  11. DH's trial ended on Feb 3, was billed yesterday for $12.99 Hope that helps.
  12. When are they considered "not new?"
  13. They pulled Equifax for us in Indiana back in August.
