  1. There are games to be played but this is not a particularly good one. And you are right, this is not really beneficial to his scores, either.
  2. IMO this depends on whether or not the debt is "yours" (as in, totally erroneous vs. a collection in the right time frame for something you know you had charged-off) and how eager you are to take matters to court.
  3. Some people have reported being able to get Citi student cards without actually being students. I'm in no way encouraging anyone to lie on a credit application, merely reporting facts.
  4. This is really best fitted for a Citi CSR. There are a few different payment centers. Call the number on your card.
  5. No. If done properly, it should just show as a transferred account. You should maintain the age and history. Search if you are looking for more information.
  6. Are they even reporting? Many people have had success filing complaints with the MI attorney general. Run a search for one of those threads.
  7. Many people in India are well educated and speak English. Throw in cheap voice over IP and lower wages and you have the "no brainer" answer to cutting costs.
  8. The 30 day message is very common. I've been approved after receiving it many times. Try calling for status in a few business days.
  9. HSBC 5%/1% card. I'm not terribly disappointed about it.
  10. They get a judgment first, then get the lien. I could tell you which Chase hardship plan he would benefit from and how to get on it but not when he's approaching it with that kind of attitude. Sounds like the wife doesn't trust him at all if she won't do a BT.
  11. I would be extremely disinclined to pay these accounts if they were in fact bogus charges, but that's me. I wouldn't begin thinking about paying until you've read more here and have exhausted other avenues.
  12. They could try to collect, but they have no legal basis for it anymore. They can call and ask you for money, but if the SOL is up you don't legally owe it. They can try to sue, but you will have SOL as an affirmative defense and the case will be thrown out in about a quarter of a second. The SOL will go by your DOLA and it doesn't really matter (legally, maybe not practically) how they sold it or reported it.
  13. By FOAD, do you mean the SOL letter? That should be on whychat's site and probably the letters forum.
  14. Read the fine print more closely. I bet you don't incur any finance charges if you continue to PIF. Your grace period is not disappearing.
  15. Sometimes certain people go even further. I think it was the British government that I read would wipe the drives, then burn them at high temperature until they were turned to fine ashes, and then bury these in an underground vault.
