I was searching for a forum that might be familiar with this topic and didn't find anything, so figured my CB buddies might be able to help. Let's just say that I want to copy Paypal's business model. The only difference between Paypal and Freepal is that Freepal is (as you may have guessed) free for consumers and businesses in all cases (used on Ebay or sending money to friends or buying stuff from a 3rd party side). It connects to your bank account and you can load money into your Freepal account (ACH transfer/e-check). Is Freepay a viable business? Does Freepay have to pay anyone so customers can do ACH/echeck transfers to/from their bank accounts? How do I go about setting up Freepay? Do I just call a bank up and see if they'd be willing to work with me? I'm in Illinois, if that helps. Dwolla is one such payment processing startup. Their fee is 25 cents per transaction over $10 and free under $10. Can I start my own free version of Dwolla? Any resources to help me get started are highly appreciated! Really appreciate the help!

No luck. Just went from 500 to 5000 a couple of weeks ago, with a call to UW.

Perfect. I'll wait for the letter and try again next month, after the 6 month period Also wanted to report that my GF's CLI request was denied and she's had the card for about 9 months now. Reason was low FICO (656) and high util.
-
Accidentally asked for CLI. Thought it had been 6 months already. Denied with no reason listed. Does anyone recall if they say "Sorry, you're not yet eligible for a CLI" when you apply before 6 months?

Thanks for the responses. Hertz is the only provider that includes liability insurance on their car rentals in Mexico. The cost is a couple of bucks higher that the others, but you don't want to get there and get charged an additional $20 per day for insurance. Most other companies make their money that way And just use your credit card and get extra insurance on your rental. Worked out to about $14 per day plus gas... In case anyone's planning on going to Mexico. They do however, reserve a deposit on your credit card, in case you don't come back with the car. But, no issues whatsoever with billing... Also, use your BofA card to withdraw money from Banco Satander ATMs. No fee withdrawals and the best exchange rate (12.85, when I was there)...

All the no AF AMEX cards, for backdating. I plan on applying in January.

wow, what a waste of everyone's time. I suspect a troll, as well. OP: Use the search function on this site to search for the info you're looking for.No one''s going to waste their time creating a step by step guide that's tailored to your needs. Start in the newbies section, just like everyone else did. If you can't even do that, just pay everyone off in full and call it a day. One day your scores will bounce back up. -
This has been a police state for a long time. We only have a false sense of freedom and the media does an amazing job of propagating this. And I feel extra bad for minorities because of the rampant racism in police departments. I for one made a decision to never fight any of this and just live my life without any troubles. It's just not worth it. If there's a protest near my workplace, I make sure to not even go out for lunch, so I don't accidentally get caught in any of the violence that always occurs. Always, innocent protesters are beaten and arrested for BS reasons. And they use unreasonable excuses to stop/limit protests. I can think of a few other places where they don't let you protest. Saudi Arabia and North Korea to name a few. Only difference is that in those countries, they tell you outright that you can't protest and if u do, you'll go to jail for a very long time.

I'm going to Mexico next month and looking into getting a rental car. The prices are great ($100 for 10 days with taxes included). However, I realized that insurance isn't included and would cost me another $100-$150, but I was reading that you could get away with using your credit card's rental insurance. Does anyone have any experience with this?

$17,935 in student loans and I don't have a degree
vickpr replied to Home4Me2012's topic in Credit Forum
It's sad to see folks still falling into this for-profit school trap. For positions requiring a degree, my employer does not hire people from for-profit schools. I get to interview people after they've cleared the HR round, and have never seen a for-profit school on a resume. I'm sure there are a handful of geniuses that have gotten degrees from UofP, but I wouldn't waste my time looking for them because chances are that I won't come across them. On the flip side, I've worked with a guy from MIT, and it seemed like he had learnt absolutely nothing in school. So, I guess YMMV. But the bottom line is that good schools open up doors. Maybe when you go back to finish up, you can transfer your credits to a real school... -
Thanks for the responses, jv01 and Chris. I have to say "been there, done that" when it comes to standard investments like stocks, bonds, futures, ETFs, etc.. I'd feel more comfortable exchanging my money for a piece of land. I;d prefer to own some outright vs synthetically through REITs. Worst case, I can grow something on it or lease it out to someone. I don't plan on ever making any babies, so passing it on is unlikely. I just think that land prices are going much higher within the next 10-30 years and I would feel comfortable sitting on a nice chunk of it. At the very least, I would love to have a nice big parcel of land that I can build a small cabin on, and maybe live off the neighboring jungle? Born and raised in a metropolitan area, I know that this is highly unlikely, but I like to dream that this is still a possibility. I also love to travel and experience new countries/cultures, so I don't really care to stay in the US or Canada... As long as I can find a country that is politically stable and the prices are within my reach... Chris - Thanks for the suggestions about OK. I'll definitely look into it...

I've got about 20K in savings now, and guessing that the pile should get up to about $40K by the end of the year. My parents might also give me about 200K or so, by the end of the year. I'm really looking into investing this money into acreage. Not houses or cheap Florida condos, but land that's viable for agriculture/timber/eco-tourism etc. I've been looking at properties in the US, but they all seem too expensive. Either that, or acreage in the NM desert without mineral rights (completely useless). I'm certainly open to buying stuff outside the country. I've looked at some in Canada and Brazil, but I'm not very comfortable taking the plunge, given my limited knowledge in this field. I can buy about 70 acres or so in Ontario for about $40K. Good deal or not? I'm confused.. Does anyone know of any good places I should be looking at? Or some resources/websites I should be looking at? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Just wanted to let everyone know that I finally closed yesterday. I was able to get an extension till the end of the this week, although my loan was clear to close last thursday. Thanks to all, who helped me through this stressful process (especially Brian, our loan professor). I also want to take this opportunity to promote the mortgage broker and company I finally settled on. I'm usually of the opinion that salespeople are selfish jerks, and I don't fall for their cheap tricks. I have to say that i've somewhat changed my mind after doing business with my guy. He was just awesome! Very honest and straightforward. He doesn't pull any sales tricks, and answers all your questions right away! Got my file clear to close in less than 2 weeks from initial contact! But the weird part was that it wasn't just him. His company really went the extra mile, calling in favors to get the appraisal done within 1 business day, etc. And I had first contacted him on the Friday before memorial day. He processed my file that weekend and got me through automated underwriting by Sunday. The best part is that I got an excellent rate and my closing costs were very good too. This was after the horrible experience I had with another guy, who I plan on reporting to his regulators. I also contacted a few others banks/brokers, but they were not very interested in my business. Looks like it's been very busy the last few weeks or so. Lots of people buying homes etc. Everyone kept telling me that they couldn't close in 2 weeks and the min was 3-4 weeks. In any case, if you're in the Chicago area and looking for a broker, please feel free to PM me. I'd love to post his name and contact info here, but I don't want to violate any forum rules.. Good guys like him deserve to get more business!

Just had to deal with this myself. Here's what you need to do: TU & EX: Call the regular customer service number. For EX, you will need a report number before they even talk to you. This should update within a day. EQ: Call their corporate office and ask to be connected to the executive customer service line. You can leave a message or keep calling back till the person picks up the phone. She can fix the report right away. Don't waste your time with letters/disputes/contacting the creditors. I've tried it all without any luck. And I only had 1 tradeline with the dispute comments..

Need help on how to CONSOLIDATE dumb debt.
vickpr replied to Troy and Katrina's topic in Credit Forum
Based on the outrageously ridiculously high interest rates you borrowed at, I'd strongly suggest taking out a 401K loan (if it is an option) and paying all of your debt off. Even the interest on the home depot card is most likely, significantly higher than what you will make in the 401K. I can currently borrow from my 401K at 5% (interest goes back into my account) for 60 months. I can't believe it is legal to lend money out at 180%. 401K loans are typically a bad thing, but certainly not, if you're paying so much in interest. Good Luck!
