So I was recently denied for a DCU checking and savings account. Reason being was because of my chex report. I received my report today and there are 2 accounts from BOA on there. Both are reported as "account abuse". One of the is listed as "paid, settled for less" however the other one is showing as unpaid. I don't ever recall the first one which is paid, however the other one I do remember because I settles with RJM about 6 months ago.

Should I dispute this status with RJM since I paid them and they never notified BOA or should I just directly dispute it with chex in hopes that it gets removed? I've never dealt with a chex issue before.

Yes just dispute it with Chex directly... Unfortunely even if they both are reported as a zero balance you may still get denied at certain banks especially with it marked as abuse. Dispute the amount the the reason. But actually getting them removed most likely won't happen and your most likely also listed on EWS.

Another verification agency similar to Chex.. Early Warning System... Some backs also check them when opening accounts. Bank Of America and some other large banks actually own them. So more likely then not your in their system also.

Whats the age of the item(s) reported? They only report for 5 years. If the items is rarely new, then I would definitely dispute. Send the proof of payment to Chexsystems. They should have provided an address on the report they sent. If it is old, i would leave it alone and let it fall off.

Just my 2 cents...

Good point 5 years and its gone. But if they update the amount or other info it Re starts the clock. Chex is a SOB to deal with I had a issue years back and sent them all the needed info to verify what I was saying was true and it took me three times disputing the info with the same evidence to get it off.

They were both put on my record in March of 2009. So I'm about a year away from them falling off I guess.

I've been with chase since 2009 and am happy with them. I was just looking to join DCU to start a relationship with them to take advantage of their nice rates on home and auto loans. I guess I have to hold off on that until next year.
