No credit check to get an account. The only requirement I think is you must be alive and breathing. One downside is I read it's hard to reach their customer service on the phone. Also, your money isn't FDIC insured.

 

I did open an account a couple of months ago. I've been transferring small amounts to it from another checking account. I'll be treating myself to a tablet computer once there is enough money in there for it.

There is also a restriction on having this account and a Serve account. https://www.serve.com/

 

Both have their upsides and downsides. More importantly, if you have a Serve account and apply for the BB, they may lock one or both accounts.

When you contact a customer service rep, they'll make you choose an account to keep active and inactivate the other or so I hear.

Best look into the fine prints if you're interested.

Serve looks like something for a teenager just starting out -- any personal experience with it?

 

I used it mostly to add money from a gift card and went straight to an ATM to withdraw said money.

For the time being, Serve is implementing no fees on adding funds from the debit/credit/gift card and withdrawing from certain ATMs.

It is not a bank account. Just a system of moving money around.

 

Bluebird is issued and backed by American Express Travel Related Services Co., Inc., not a bank.

Funds are not FDIC-insured.
