Probably Apple. What is your friend's file like, number of TLs, high TL, time in business according to D&B?

Off Topic, you can't call an Apple Computer a PC, as it isn't

Does your friend NEED new PCs or does he/she WANT new PCs.

Only reason I ask is computers depreciate horrendously.

Might be a good idea to save a lotta $$$ by getting a used one off of craigslist or something.

Computers are pretty easy to fix when minor things go wrong.

Laptops... not so much.

Just an idea.

Good Luck

Full Disclosure:

Im lusting after a 27" imac to replace my businesses 24" one.

Do I need it ...Noooo.

Do I want it... Oh yeah!

Buying a used computer is the worst idea ever , there is a reason why they are selling it ,no one sells a computer that works well and you have no idea what is on the hard drive Child porn=JAIL!

User or new? It really depends on where you are getting it from, and what purpose you are using it for. For end users on a larger network, I always purchase refurbished Dell Optiplex desktops, as it saves $100-200 per user. Dell refurbished is a good deal, as you get the regular Dell warranty, but at a lower price. Laptops I try to buy new, unless I know the user is going to just leave it on his/her desk all the time. Laptops have tighter variances compared to a desktop, so it is much easier to damage one.

Servers, NEVER buy used, regardless of who you are buying them from, and what warranty is offered. Even 1 minute of downtime is unacceptable on a network grade server. I have managed over 500 servers for the last seven years, and I have had a total of 3 hours down time.

That is sooo not true.

Computers are like anything else (cellphones, vidoe games systems, cars).

People sell them because they upgraded them, got another one as a gift or need the money.

And every seller knows (should know) that you format your hard drive before selling for data privacy.

Every buyer knows (should know) that you format the hard drive after you buy for the reasons you mentioned before and the fact you dont know what's on that computer.

I have sold plenty of computers that work well. Businesses do it all the time. After 2-3 years they change out their entire fleet. Not because they have problems but its time to upgrade the specs.

Have you had bad experiences buying used?

I bought two refurbished ones from dell ( not really used) and both have sucked and before this I never had any problems with dells even refurbished ones and the fact my father inlaw is a a IT security tech and works for the FBI and he says no matter what you do to your hard drives there is always a way to get info off them. Average people cant get anything off them but people that work in these fields can. Thye only thing you can do is destroy them totally like burn them.

Like the computers he uses even his personal computers get destroyed when they go out of service

I have two pallets of hard drives waiting to be shredded, pretty much impossible to get data off them once they go through a 40HP chipper :clapping:

Buying refurbished is okay, so long as you are buying from a trusted source. Ebay is NOT a good source, direct from the manufacturer is your best bet.

Apple is financed though the GE leasing division, Apple offers BMLB as a payment option, but Apple direct leasing is offered through GE. They pull your D&B file, I have yet to verify if they pull EQ, but they do not pull EX.

If the CIA wants to read what was on my old hard drives, let them. We don't have anything to hide. Most of the stuff is from pre-2000 computers, some pre-1990 so any of the data on them is going to be worthless/irrelevant. Once they go trough a shredder, every part of the drive is <.25' big, and mixed in with parts from thousands of other drives. It looks like a mountain of confetti.
