Ugh.

 

I have NO idea how to go about this, I just found a collection letter going through paperwork---dated 9/29/09.

 

Suburban Credit Corporation, amout due in excess of $750+. It only gives a creditor account #, and amount due---no dates of service, etc. I'm not exactly disputing the debt, but I'm unclear on the amount of debt.

 

I've had a few ER visits, all others I've only been charged my co-pay, in the amount of $150---all of the sudden a collection account for over $750?

 

How can I find out *what* this is for and *how* they calculated the amount owed?

 

Finally, obviously I don't want to pay a collection agency---I'd rather pay the hospital, how can I get the hospital to pull it back--AFTER I determine that $750 is the full amount owed?

 

I haven't gotten on the phone yet, shall I start with the hospital, my insurance company, or both?

 

I'm very unfamiliar with Whychat's Hippa process---is this the appropriate route in this scenario?

There are several things you need to do.

 

First, get recent individual copies of your credit reports;

Next, Opt out;

If you have moved within the past few years, make sure your correct current address is on your reports and that there are NO addresses that are not/were not absolutely correct. If there are, you need to dispute them off. You can try calling the individual CRA's to do this.

 

Check your reports VERY CAREFULLY for unknown or incorrect addresses, name spellings, SS#'s or any accounts or inquiries you do not recognize.

 

IF this account from "Suburban" is on ANY of your reports, you need to dispute it with this;(follow all the directions)

In the meantime, get from your insurance Co. copies of your EOMB, ( explanation of medical benefits) This will show what was submitted to them and what was paid and what ( if anything) you MIGHT still owe.

Send the CA( Suburban) this;

DO NOT call or contact them EXCEPT by mail- DO NOT sign the letter to them, print or use a computer generated script signature.
