In Texas, is it likely that a collection for medical bills will sue to get a judgment?

Hubby had to be hospitalized and has no insurance. I am the only income for a family of 5. Hubby signed all his own hospital papers. First hospital tried to get me to sign a promissary note & I refused to sign it.

How likely will the collections show on my report? Wondering if I need a new checking acct in my name only. Need to protect my income so that we don't wind up on the street.

Thanks,

Struggling

Did your husband apply for assistance with the bill when he was at the hospital?? If not, it may still be in time to apply.

Make sure you are BOTH opted out on your reports,

Yes it is POSSIBLE that your husband could be sued, yes it would be a good idea to open an account in your own name AT A DIFFERENT BANK.

If your husband were to be sued there is no wage garnishment in Tx and you have total homestead exemption.
