Hi!

I have a hospital bill being reported by Mercantile Adjustment Bureau that is only showing up on EX. I disputed it a couple of years ago and they sent a bill identical to what the hospital sent back then. I wasn't versed on the HIPAA process at that time so I did nothing. According to an EX report that I have, it is supposed to fall off my credit report in July of this year.

My question is, do I bother going through the HIPAA process for this or should I just wait for it to fall off? If it doesn't come off in July, should I go through the HIPAA process then?

Thanks for your advice! These are the last two baddies on my reports!

Let's see, it is June and we will be into July in a couple of weeks. It will take at least a few weeks to get through the HIPAA process. Do the math. I wouldn't bother.

If you have opted out and deleted old addresses and have NO OTHER "dings" on your report, then you can wait and see IF it falls off.

On the other hand, the initial dispute letter costs you $ 3.14 in postage and a few minutes time and you would have a letter of deletion from Ex. in case some data miner got hold of it and sold it to another CA and re-aged it.

Thank you all for responding!

My only hesitation with sending a dispute letter was whether or not it was still within the statute of limitations. I went to the emergency room in July of 2002 and I thought that there was a matter of seven years and a couple of months after the expense was incurred that they could come after you. This is another one of these CAs that sinks both teeth in so I'm not sure if the wise thing to do would be to wait for it to fall off or try to shake it off!

Perhaps the answer is both. Give it until maybe September and then send the dispute. I'm not actively looking for credit but that's the best time for me to work on my credit report!

Thanks for looking!
