I wanted to start building a relationship with Virginia Credit Union, so I went in there to make a share deposit and join. Imagine my surprise when she said "You have an entry in Chex!" I had no idea any CU pulled just for joining! They're the best CU around here and have the best rates - I really wanted to join. Now she says I need a letter stating my debt to the other bank has been taken care of. I'm going to get the chex entry off and then try joining again at a different location, and see if that works. If not, well, I have to pay it anyway, since my mother was joint on the account that went bad, and I don't want them coming after her anyway, so I'll just get the letter they need. But SHEESH. Just wanted to warn others this was possible, as I had no idea.

I am not sure which bank you owe/ and reported you to chexsystems but please note that paying off chexsystems will not remove you but yes many banks and credit unions will make exception for those that have paid etc. it just depends on the specific bank or credit union
