Is it possible to find a checking account if you are a non-us citizen? Someone asked me and I have no idea at all about this.

Yes, but they require a social security number or tax payer id number as well as a valid passport or driver's license. My husband got a CU account within the first week of moving to the US using only his newly applied for SSN and California DL. US citizenship is not required for a bank account (he's still only a greencard holder after 8 years and has 2 checking accounts).

Weren`t there a few banks that catered to illegal aliens a while back, requiring only a "matricular consular"(or something like that) card issued by the Mexican gov`t?
