Hi guys,

Here is my problem. Awhile back we discovered a $3,208 collections account on my husband's Experian credit report, it was from a hospital who had turned it over to a collection agency. We knew this was a mistake so he disputed it through the CRA, not contacting the CA at all. A few weeks later we got a response from the CRA with a copy of his credit report showing the item was removed. Our celebration was short lived however, when we discovered that the CA suddenly reported it to TransUnion, where it had not previously been. The reporting date also falls in with the time frame he was disputing the item with Experian. It looks to me like the CA couldn't verify it, so they got mad and reported it to another CRA.

So my question is, can they do that? He can dispute it again but will they just report it to Equifax?

How did you dispute it with Experian?? As an"error" or "not mine"??

What do you mean "mistake"?? how old is this alleged account?? Was it paid, or paid by insurance? Or was it a case of ID theft/fraud?

You can dispute it to TU with the medical dispute letter.

You can send the reporting CA the medical DV if this is an account that is TRULY a "mistake" and not just a billing error or unpaid account that SHOULD have been paid by insurance.

You should opt out on BOTH your reports and IF this is a case of ID theft/fraud you need to put a fraud alert on your reports and file an ID theft/fraud report with the FTC and your State Consumer Protection Agency.

Thank you for your reply. I guess I should have been a little more specific. My husband did have to go to that hospital once three years ago. Our co-pay was $100 (which we already took care of) and the rest was to be paid by insurance. He disputed it as an error, and judging from the fact that it was removed the CA couldn't verify it (because it IS an error). Anyway the point is, it WAS removed and rather than leave it at that the CA turned around and reported it to another CRA. It just doesn't make sense to me why they would do that, unless they were upset that he disputed with the previous one.
