I had an old bill (DOFD in 2001)from Putnam General Hospital in WV.

They got sued for malpractice a few years back and for such a high amount that they closed down.

West Asset Management is collecting on this account.

WAM sent me a printout from their computer in an attempt to validate.

They claim to have received this computer generated billing summery from

Putnam General Hospital. The address they claim to have received this from is not Putnam General Hospital, but "Hospital Corporation of America." HCA.

HCA has a maize of sub organizations or associates as they call them.

I subsequently received a phone call from National Patient Account Services (NPAS) (They are owned and operated by "Hospital Corporation of America." HCA), offering to accept payment. They told me that they only handle the billing for Putnam General Hospital, and that the account had been sold to NCO. Apparently, WAM has it now.

My question is, is WAM correct in saying that they received this info from Putnam General Hospital, or the OC?

Yes, they are reporting on EX and TU, my last derogatory account.

From what you said, I gather that I needn’t bother with the validation issue, since it is SOL.

I can pursue the SOL issue. I didn’t think of that. And since I live in MD, it’s Open Acct.: 3 UCC: 4

And WV is Open Acct.: 5

NO NO NO

Send the medical dispute letter to the CRA's to get it deleted, do NOT send the SOL letter, as that would in effect be a DV and would NOT allow you to use the HIPAA letter program to get a deletion.

I already sent the medical dispute letter, and TU confirmed that they contacted West Asset Management and WAM verified this account.

My next step should have been to send the Hippa letter to the OC.

But I was unable to locate the OC, since they closed down, and the letter that I sent to the OC’s (Putnam General Hospital) address was returned as undeliverable, I opted to DV West asset Management. From the information sent by WAM, it appears that "Hospital Corporation of America." HCA is now the legal account holder. But I am un able to confirm this. The only thing that HCA will confirm, is that they handle the billing now for Putnam General Hospital. They do not know what happened to them and deny all responsibility other then to handle their billing.

So the Hippa letter may not work for me now.

OK, this is one for the SOL letter then--

Make sure you do NOT use the underlined portions.

You are correct,I don't see ANY way of using the HIPAA letter proccess in this situation.

You do NOT have to send the "pre" SOL dispute letter as you have already sent the medical dispute letter, however you WILL have to send the follow up dispute letter as soon as you have proof of the CA's receipt of the SOL letter.
