Hello,

I recently I had an appointment to get pre-approved for a mortgage. Everything was great as far as assets and employment history. I have a previous bankruptcy that discharged a couple years ago.

I made the really bad mistake of breaking my cycle of saying no to those pre-approved credit card offers and totally forgot that I got the account. All bills and statements were going to a different address. I have been on time with everything else and my car is due to be paid off next month.

To make a long story short, I was told by my lender that I will either have to get the account deleted or continue renting for another year. Is there anyone out there that can help me so that I can get the ball rolling? I have previously sent a certified letter to settle this debt, the creditor accepted, but their response letter indicates that they will denote Paid settlement on my credit report, which I know won't help me. Can I Pay in Full & Dispute with CRAs or should I do a pay for delete?

Thus far, they are telling me that they will not accept a pay for delete and I must wait 7 years. Also, that a paid in full chargeoff would not still be a negative on my credit report, COME ON!!! I feel like I am in a lose-lose situation. If I pay, them the money they get what they want and I still have negatives on my credit. This is a Fashion Bug account. I just printed out a list of addresses for Fashion Bug customer service and the Spirit of America National Bank which owns it. Hopefully, they are out of synch and someone agrees. I don't understand why they'd rather lose out on the money than just check the delete box on the UDF.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Michelle

Welcome to CreditBoards! We hope that you find what you're looking for here. Some helpful tips:

  • Your post may not get a reply right away. Don't be discouraged, this is a very busy board. If it falls off of the first page, feel free to reply to your post yourself, with the word *bump* in the text. This will *bump* your post back up to the top of the board.
  • If you haven't yet, take a peek at out Newbies Section. Everything that you need to know is in that forum, for the most part! It's a lot of reading, we know, but this credit stuff can have a steep learning curve. In no time, you'll be posting like the pros!
  • If you find that someone is discourteous to you, use the REPORT button at the bottom of every post - that will ensure that a moderator or admin looks at the post and decides if it is against the TOS.
  • Off -topic posts should go in the General Forum.

It doesn't make sense if this is "one" negative on your report how you wouldn't be able to get a house - even in today's industry... It should only be required for you to pay it...

I know that an account gone bad after BK is bad but I also know it is doable..

ETA - didn't get my thought out...

My guess is that you will have to pay them... let it sit for a little bit then start disputing it or writing the higher ups to try to make it a positive tradeline or something...

Is it a credit card? Is it still with the original creditor or has it gone to collections? Perhaps if they won't do a pfd they might do a paid in full, since I assume you are offering to pay it off in full, and ask them to remove charge-off. Then it will just look like you simply paid off the account.

Can you tell us amounts, dates, etc? Is a CA trying to collect? What's on your report?

who was the original creditor?

::don't say CapOne don't say CapOne don't say CapOne::

Alright, I will try to answer everyone's question. I live in Michigan. This is a Fashion Bug Credit Card. This account was transferred to a law firm to collect the money. Previously, they offered 70% settlement, but their terms on my credit report would have been Paid and Settled. That does me no good! They would not agree to a Pay for Delete or to remove the negative denotations on my credit report.

Good news. I have been trying to clean up my other accounts on my credit report. They were still showing as current and not included in bankruptcy. I have had several of those deleted just by disputing as "including in bankruptcy." Should I request the investigation information just in case these accounts end up back on my credit report? Should I continue to pick off my older bankruptcy accounts?

I think that I may have luck disputing with my TransUnion report. I previously reviewed the report and they are reporting the wrong balance, high value, etc. I am just wondering, should I try the dispute method before any kind of payment including Pay For Delete?

Here's the info from my credit report:

Fashion Bug

1103 Allen Dr

Milford OH 45150

Date Opened 09/2007

Credit Limit $200

Date of 1st Delinquency 11/2007

Balance Amount 406

Past Due 406

Current Status Chargeoff

Account Closed by Grantor

Thanks for all your help

I also had an account that belonged to my mom deleted on my credit report. I didn't know that she added me as authorized user. Never had a card or anything. I figured that account was bringing my score down because her limit was $10k with a $7500 current balance.

Thanks for all your help B)

Is the lawfirm reporting as well? Did you offer the pfd to the lawfirm or to Fashion Bug?

Sorry for all the questions. I mis-read your original post.

Here is the direction I would go:

If Fashion Bug still owns the account (and they are reporting as if they do), I would contact Fashion Bug, using Stryker's goodwill methods. Note that a key part of his strategy is NOT to ask for a pfd...but just find someone high up in Fashion Bug to offer pay the account. Be prepared to pay the full amount immediately. Make sure the exec you contact knows you are trying to get a mortgage and this is the one and only bad thing you've ever done...just an innocent slip. Hopefully, that person will just update the trade. If not, you will at least have it paid and then you can go back and battle the tradeline later.

If Fashion Bug no longer owns it, that is a different matter. If they don't own it, then they are mis-reporting it on your report. I would start by disputing with the CRAs

My best suggestion, find the highest person with the OC and contact them on it. Let them know your situation, and the urgency of the deletion, Usually a CEO can get this done.

If you do anything with the CEO remember this KILL THEM WITH KINDNESS!!!!!!!!!! don't cry, don't fuss, don't get mad, be as sweet as you can possibly be.

Well, the law firm was supposedly hired to collect the money. When I ask about the notation on my credit report they say I'd have to contact Fashion Bug because they have no control. I call Fashion Bug and they tell me to contact the law firm since it's out of their hands. I have offered Pay for Delete to both with no avail. How do you find the CEO's? I work at the front desk at my job and I know that no one speaks to my Director. That would be an obstacle!

I found the Fashion Bug CEO Dorrit Bern on the internet. She has a webpage specifically geared toward sharing questions or concerns for Fashion Bug customers. It links to her email and she says that she will return the message as soon as possible. I wonder if this will actually be her or some customer service rep going through the motions and sending a form letter? Worth a try though. I will let you know how this works out. Thanks for all the ideas. Keep them coming

hi michelle...did you read the link to stryker's thread on this? i kind of agree with his suggestion that you go one level below the CEO. CEOs are generally to surrounded with people who's job it is to buffer. They can certainly get the job done..but you aren't going to form any kind of relationship with them...and you aren't going to be able to give them a buzz if something happens.

Also..i really agree with stryker...not to ask for the pfd. they have every right to report the way they are...the best way to make your case is to seem like someone who is just trying to do the right thing...

i would use the fact that the law firm is telling you to talk to fashion bug and fashion bug is telling you to talk to the law firm as your reason for contacting an exec.
