WhyChat,

I got a medical collection in January but didn't call till a few days ago to find out about it. (Stupid I know but with so many medical bills to sort through I am suprised only 1 slipped through the cracks.) The CA said they reported to the bureaus on 2/28 and they will absolutely not agree to a PFD. I called the supervisor and begged for a PFD a few times but have not had any written communication with them and definitely did not make arrangements to pay. Then I found this board thank God.

The date of service for this account was 3/06 and the last communcation I recieved from the OC was on 11/06 if any of that matters. I know the debt is valid and I can pay it (only 100 bucks.)

OK, I have opted out. Is it OK to just go to the CRA websites to delete my old addys or what is the best way to do that? I just sent a dispute by mail to them a few days ago (for unrelated matters), I wish I did it then. Just curious, what is the signifigance of this step and do I need to verify the deletion of old addys before proceeding with the next step?

Anyway, from what I read, the next step should be the pre-HIPAA letter to the CRAs. The CA told me they reported on 2/28, but I am monitoring on myfico.com and haven't seen it yet. So, I need to wait for that, right?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!! This site is a godsend. I really hope this tactic is as beautiful and flawless as it seems! I am excited and a bit nervous to get underway.

You can dispute addy's online, however at this time you want to wait for your other dispute to run its course. One reason for deleting old addy's is to make it harder for the CRA's to tie a TL to you because of an old addy. Do not have any communication with the CA. Are you in the same area or State with the OC? And you are sure it's not on any report?

Yes. I am in the same area. I think my myfico monitoring only scans equifax so I am not sure. How long does it usually take to show up? Is there a reliable way to monitor all 3 bureaus at once? I have heard that credit monitoring places like truecredit.com are a scam and that only myfico has accurate info.

I heard mainly good things for TC but that is a question for the main Credit Forum along with monitoring. I personally use EQ.

If its not on your CR's pay the OC timing is the question.

Pay the OC with money order, on the back of the money order print “for deposit only (name of hospital".) Maybe also include a letter stating something like "It has come to your attention that I owe this bill and I am taking care of it by paying it in full" or something like that. Don't mention the CA at all.

On the front of the MO, put your account # in the "for" section. Make a copy of the front and back of the money order before sending it to them.

This should prevent them from just signing a check over to the CA.

So, if it's not yet on my report (but I know it will at some point) I can skip the prehippa and send full payment to the OC? Is there a thread that goes over this scenario in detail? I suppose that after they cash the MO I send the HIPPA letter with insert B since at that point it would be fully paid.

If it is still not on your CR then do nothing but maintain record keeping. If it does show up then return to this post and update.

You mean if it is still not on my CR after sending OC full payment? YES Or are you telling me to do nothing until I see it on my CR? No Sorry, I'm getting a little confused.

The advice has been given not only in this thread but also the thread that bbdjb posted. A simple note with money order endorsed(make copies of front and back) should be sent to the OC.

So the CA told you they reported on 2/28, that doesn't mean anything in regards to what you need to do. Whose to say they really reported it or were they using a scare tactic either way the advice has been given.

Is it a good idea to send this CMRRR? Just to make sure that they don't ignore it and later claim they didn't receive it? Also, in addition to the endorsement area of the check, should I explicitly state in the letter "this money order is payable to OC only and cannot be signed over to any 3rd parties."? Or, does that come to close to acknowledging the existence of the CA?

Hi 94, sorry, I didn't see your response when I made my last post. I will just send a simple note with a MO. Thanks for your help.

You're welcome. I know you addressed the thread to Whychat, but he is on vacation right now.He will be back soon though but in the meanwhile make sure you endorse the money order as stated in the previous post AND make copy of the front and back.
