Verizon is pretty notorious for not budging on your CRs. I think I may have read a thread on here about getting them bumped by sending them "goodwill abuse" letters: basically flooding them with letters every month until they want to get rid of you. Do a search for Verizon.

I did. I've read until my eyes began bleeding. All horror stories. That's why I started this thread. Wanted to know if there were any unreported success stories out there.

Are you able to pay? Is the account in the hands of a CA?

I was able to by contacting an executive. It took a lot of leg work, but media contacts can be a blessing.

Care to share your secret?

It's not a secret. Besides, I posted what I did. I went to their website, found a PR VP, emailed him, and he found a corporate counterpart who had the debt recalled, waived and deleted within 24 hours. It did take some work to get the correct person, though.

Oh yea, its only 130 bucks. They say the account is NOT in the hand of the CA, but when I call their Cust Serv dept, I'm told that part of the acct was written off or sold to a CA. On my report it reads that National Recovery address in CA.

The funny thing is that I had my old # transferred from one area code (NYC) to another (DC). In transferring the number I had two completely diff accounts. Rep told me I would see seamless billing. Well that didn't happen. I never open my bills because I pay online. The old bal on the old # didn't show up online, so I didn't realize it was there until it showed up on my reports. Whats even crazier is that I just ended my contract with them (for the DC #) last month on good terms.

Honestly, IMHO, you have a phenomenal opportunity to get it all taken care of. You have to get past the front line CSAs. They won't be able to help you.

Did you actually get Verizon deleted, or are you referring to your dealings with CMI?

the only way I got them deleted was waiting for them to report to a collection agency.

After that..it was pretty easy.

They sold my account to Midland and Midland wasn't even licensed to do business in my state.

I threw everything but the kitchen sink at them and they folded quicky.

Now..they are gone from all 3 reports and I have a letter from Midland, stating they will not sell, transfer or re-open collection efforts against me ever again..that the account is closed.

I filed complains against them with the BBB, Attorney Gen off of Indiana, FTC, ya name it..I threw it at them.

Took 3 weeks and they were gone..both Verizon and Midland..they sold it off too.

Patience..and it'll be gone.

That kinda makes me wish they had sold off my account! Unfortunately, Verizon kept it in-house.

Did you try throwing the kitchen sink at them PRIOR TO it going to a CA? I dont want to have to wait until this goes to a CA and from the sounds of it they dont sell all account to CAs. I wonder if the $ amt has anything to do with it.

Also, I read somewhere on this board that that someone sent a CA a letter stating that they would report them to the IRS, because they believed the CA had written the debt off. Well, since the CSR rep told me it had been "sold to a CA or written off", maybe the same threat would work for me?

My thoughts are that this National Recovery crap is a 3rd pary CA in hiding....and its NOT Verizon Wireless?

Hmm. I wonder if I know anyone in the media who can get me a certain Verizon Board member's email address.

If you can, I take my hat off to you.

Alternatively, you can go to the Verizon media contact page and have them get you an executive contact...

Already found the information I needed with my Google-Freedom Unlimited.

SK, If you're approach works, let us know. I spent the latter part of my lunch break calling and getting Executive contact info. I'll be sure to post an update on how my approach goes.

Verizon Wireless Southeast's PR person was of zero help. They really do not care if you pay them.

I'm all for hearing success stories. Perhaps some of the other VW district PR people are more realistic.

My story is very similar to ShoeDivas

I had a Verizon wireless account of 81 months duration, with a perfect payment history. I don’t remember opening it and I thought it was in my wife’s name. . I have 2 other Verizon accounts that are automatically drafted from my bank accounts.

When my wife terminated the service in November, she did not make the last payment of 89 dollars. I didn’t find out till it showed up as an oc charge off on my credit yesterday.

A collection agency had called me about two weeks ago I paid them in full. This was the first I was aware of the debt.

This freaking sunk my credit. I’ve been a Verizon customer for20 years with business residential and wireless accounts. I’ve paid them hundreds of thousands over the years and they sink me for $89

I can’t leave the charge off on my credit.

Any thoughts on lines of attach?

JeffandMindy, once you discovered that the collection agencies were not licensed in your state, exactly how did you make your case. Any case law?

Am I in an open contract? The contract allegedly commenced in 2004. I live in New Jersey.

Thanks Guys

Do a search for verizon wireless, you should see a few under my name. I sent a letter to the CEO through PFB and in the subject line, I said please read this pesonally. If you do not do that it just gets passed to the exec. office. That finaly worked. It was an ITS letter, you will see it under search. It was not easy it took about 6 months. I must have sent them 20 goodwill letters. If one angle doesn't work switch to another angle. Once your in the exec office the same person will contact you, just keep sending letters, e-mails anything they will get sick of seeing your name.
