There have been a lot of questions about utilization lately.

The best way to answer the question is to just use the Estimators/Simulators:

I guess no suprise that it was coming. My score went to (insert bad word here) a couple of years ago. Since then I've managed to get it back up into the mid 600's, but now the judgment lawsuits are starting apparently. I suspect they're filing them before the stuff hits the three year statue of limitations in my state.

So how will those judgments affect my score for items that are already on the report and have been charged off a couple of years ago?

Will this send my score back to 500 again?

Thanks for any insight and responses about what to expect.

Can removing fraudulent cc accounts hurt your credit? I have 2 cards in question, and they are the oldest accounts I have.

1) Opened in 1999. At this point, capital one reps figured it was a charge off. I was 12 when card was opened.

2) Bank of A card. At some point card was maxed out. It had a $7000 limit, which is the largest credit line on my report. This account is closed.

(Granted, my score is about to drop a bit for other reasons.)

Does anyone know where I can find the link to see credit score increases upon the removal of negative items? I was told there is a link somewhere within the forums.

If you're asking about the Estimators,

there are links to some of them in this thread.

I used the USAA simulator and it is pretty accurate in my personal case.

Good.

The reason I include all the FAKO Estimators

is that for some people,

they may actually be more accurate.

To re-iterate,

I include the FAKO Estimators for a reason.

If you personally run your situation through the Estimators,

and a FAKO Estimator is closer to your true FICO score.

It may be better to use THAT specific FAKO Estimator for your particular situation.

My general impression has been,

that it's more accurate to use the Estimators

than the Simulators.

But that's a gut-feeling,

not based on hard science.

There are no set answers,

but the best way to get an approximation,

is to use the estimators and simulators.

I've read tons of threads on the simulator with ranges being 'this thing is worthless' to 'it's exactly dead on'. I haven't done a study but I can say I don't see how it could be right or I'm missing some key points in FICO scoring. The confusing thing is that I don't get why it wouldn't be exactly right if it's generated by the company that gives the score. In fact, it would be ridiculous if it wasn't exactly correct.

So anyway, I have a couple baddies (divorce issue related that I'm expecting can be fixed as neither are truly mine) and have a current score of 661. With about $23k of revolving debt that's a clear thing driving the low score. It's funny that you can get a 5% car loan or a 0% credit card loan for a car and one kills your score - but that's for a different time. Here's what I don't get, though....the simulator says if I pay down $1000 of that cc debt, my score goes up 10 points to 671. If I pay an additional $500 ($1500 total) it goes up another 10 points to 681. Paying $7500 is worth 10 more points and $12,500 is yet another 10 points. So, I could be 701 with paying down $12,500 of debt or 681 by paying $1500. In fact, I don't get the last 10 points to 711 unless I pay another $8000 or $20.5k total.

Right now I'm already under 50% utilization so I don't think the $1500 crosses a magic threshold. 20 points for paying 6% of my cc balances? This just makes no sense to me. I have to be missing something about how this all works.
