Email Offer: Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express
My life is a mess replied to javamiester's topic in Credit Forum
I received the same offer via e-mail today. No opt-out language at the bottom of mine. -
Foe, A couple of weeks ago I requested 20k on my Platinum (it was at $11k) and it was an immediate approval. Then I requested 40k on my Nrewards (it was at $25k) and got the exact same message you posted. The next mornning I saw the inquiry on TU and around 9:00 am I got a call from NFCU requesting proof of income. I'm a consultant so I get paid once per month andI don't get regular pay stubs. I explained this to the lady who called. I told her I could send my 1099, bank stmt showing deposits for 7 months, and the vendor payable report from the firm I work for. She told me to send what proof I have and she would give it to the credit committee. I also told her my next payday would be 4 days from that day and asked if I should wait to submit documents until my January payment came in. She told me they keep the request open for 2 weeks and it would not hurt to wait the 4 days and include my January income. A couple of days later their letter arrived requesting proof of income. Fast forward 4 days, and I made a $7500 payment on my NFCU account and wrote a note to the credit committee explaining I did not intend to utilize the additional credit line; that I want to buy a house in the next 2-3 years and I wanted higher credit lines to make it easier to qualify for a mortgage in the future. I faxed everything over on Friday morning, and logged in on Saturday afternoon and saw my credit line was $35k. In my experience this means they need addititional documentation; not a denial. Good luck, let us know what happens.

OP, are you more interested in getting HSBC off your reports, or invalidating the 1099C? If you do not invalidate the 1099C your tax liability for 1012 is higher. Getting HSBC off your credit report is a completely different issue: one which should not be confused. I would be more concerned with oweing higher taxes due to a possibly invalid 1099C. A few years back I wrote a letter for a poster here who received a 1099C from Asset. The poster modified my letter and Asset voided the 1099C. You have a very short time line in which to dispute the 1099C. Don't wait.

Hi OP, Frank is correct, this 1099 is incorrect on it's face. Contact the Tax Department, or the CFO of the company that prepared and sent it, and inform them you are not, nor have you ever been, an attorney. Do this as soon as possible. If you do not receive a "corrected" 1099 by 2/28/13, come back and post about it. The company has to file with the IRS on 2/28/13, or 3/31/13, depending on circumstances. A mistake like yours leads me to believe they are amateurs and need to file with the IRS by 2/28/13. As for donating the proceeds to a charity, or church, you will only see a reduction in your taxes of about 1/3 of the total they reported. It is NOT a dollar for dollar reduction of your taxes. Keep me informed.

Is it time to drop toy rebuilder cards?
My life is a mess replied to BamaInvestor's topic in Credit Forum
Congrats on your successes. The toy cards will be positive trade lines on your credit reports for the next 10 years after you close them. The fact that they are costing you real money to keep this is reason enough to drop them, IMHO. Your NFCU and 2 Cap 1 cards give you $9k total available credit; keep your utilization as low as you can, and NFCU will grow your limits. Cap 1, may, or may not, grow your credit lines, but as long as they do not have an annual fee keep them and buy a cup of coffee, or a Coke, every 4-6 months on them. Also, if the ones you have are not cash back, call the regualar number and they will probably change them over to cash back for you, which makes them a better everyday card. Although my NFCU card is my primary card for EVERY purchase, because NFCU has been so generous in growing my credit limits. -
Wow!!!! Congratulations :-)

Sox - they might have declined because your EX file is frozen. I got the e-mail and decided to app. I got a message to call them, so I called and they told me I had to un-freeze EX before they could finish processing my app. I don't know my PIN to unfreeze, nor do I have any desire to unfreeze EX, so I told them to cancel my app. Got an email later that day that they had cancelled it. Don't give up on AMEX, you might not be on their naughty list after all. Maybe you are on the same list I am on, their "does not play by our rules" list

I am a consultant, so I rent cars and spend about 300 nights a year in hotels. For years I have used Priceline to get some of the best deals available on hotel rooms, and occasionally rental cars. I have wanted to app for their card all year, but wanted to wait until my scores were good and my utilization was lower. Today I app'ed for the Priceline card and in about 5 seconds I was approved for the Visa Signature with a credit limit of $18,600!!!!! OMG! I am totally stunned! I never expected an initial credit line so high! Again, thanks CB'ers for all your advice, and teaching me to be patient and wait until my scores were higher to apply. 3 years ago I was thrilled to get a $300 starting credit line, so I have definately learned patience, and to only app when I really, really, really want the card. I now have over $100k available credit on cards, and my TU fico is over 750. Patience and time grow good FICO scores. When I found CB I was planning to buy a house in 5 years. Looks like I am definately on-track for getting a really good interest rate on a mortgage next year. Now, I just have to find a job without all the travel so I can go home everynight and enjoy my house! Thanks CB! These approvals were only possible due to the great posts by all of you!

You have posted again and again and again to app in-store for any store card! Special thanks for all your postings! BTW in August, I app'edin-store at Bloomingdales and was approved for $500 after about 10 minutes. I maxed it out before it reported :-( I called when I got home and a delightful young lady told me they could not increase my limit because my EX file is frozen. However, she told me to call back around Thanksgiving and see if they can increase my limit after a few months of use. When the first statement was issued about 25 days later, my limit was raised to $1500! If I had app'ed on-line for Bloomies they would probably have declined me. My Macy's card is positively ancient, but stuck at $2500 forever also due to EX freeze.
