Thanks CB! During my divorce I lost my job and my credit went downhill with late payments and one charge off. Last year I got serious about my finances and started implementing the strategies I learned here. Initially I felt I would have to simply wait for the negative info to fall off in time. The good thing about that mindset is that I didn't apply for new credit, so my inquiries were very low.
I opened an account with my job's credit union and they said they would use the same hard pull (Experian - 694 FICO) if I wanted to apply for a Visa. Sure, why not? On the app it asked the limit I was seeking. Playing it safe I said $3000....... and that's what I got. The only other major card I had for the last 6 years was/is Capital One for $300. So I don't even count that. Plus they ALWAYS denied me an increase.
Anyway, since studying this board I've been approved for the Sterling trifecta - $1300 ea, Macy's $300 with a drop to $170 but I am keeping it, and CareCredit - $1000. Now a $3000 from my credit union.
My scores have increased because I am now an AU on two perfect trade lines. But they did take a dip when I applied for various credit. I was denied Amazon Visa and United Visa. But will try them again at the end of the year, along with Amex. Amex to 'me' will have said that I made it.
Thanks again CB. I have learned a lot. Still have a ways to go, But I have gained quite a sense of personal fulfillment due to the knowledge learned here.
