Paid NCO reporting as collection to CRAs?
westernsky replied to westernsky's topic in Medical Billing & Medical Collections
Thank you for the reply and links. I think she's already opted out, so I'll get that letter to the ca together and get it out asap. -
Since I've spent the last few months researching and getting acquainted with all things credit, my mom asked if I would take a look at her reports. Everything looked perfect except for a medical collection from NCO back in 2004. My mom had surgery and I think this was an uncovered portion that she was billed by the hospital. I'm not sure how this $700 bill got to collections, but it was settled shortly thereafter. Since this is paid, and reports as paid, is there any way to get the ca to remove it? ------------------- (I looked through the whychat pages, but I didn't see anything like this - please direct if I missed it!) If no, does the standard 7 year drop off apply?

Wow! Congratulations and well done!

After doing a little research to see who pulls Experian (my best score at 744 fako), I decided to apply for HSBC Plat MC online and I was preapproved! I went for it and got approved for $3500. Woohoo. That is by far my biggest CL and I am thrilled to pieces!

Never had AMEX, but they are reporting an oldie? Help!
westernsky replied to westernsky's topic in Credit Forum
Done. I disputed with the CRAs and I checked back with AMEX (the credit reporting #) because that DOLA was really bothering me and I needed to know why it "re-aged." AMEX said they were already in the process of taking it off and stopping it from reporting to the CRAs. I asked what happened in 10/08 that activated it and she said she wasn't sure, she had no indications listed on the account. Weird. I'm just glad it's almost over. I will be watching my reports very closely and hopefully this will be gone soon. Thanks again everyone for all of the help on this. clueless alaskan - Lucky on the no limit reporting. Did that tl just pop up recently, of has it been there all of this time? -
I too registered last summer and have read and lurked since. I have learned so much and have really taken control of my credit. As a result, my scores have jumped 100+ points and I couldn't have done it without the knowledge I found on this board. Many thanks. If possible, I'd love to be a full member.

The DOFD listed is 10/97 and AMEX says they closed it 2/98, yet they report it was closed 04/05, and list the DOLA as 10/08. I have no clue what happened in October of 2008 that activated this account. I had no contact with AMEX; I have no reason to as I don't have any accounts with them. The thing is apparently they were checking me out all summer with a bunch of soft pulls. Again, I have no idea why. I have filed disputes with two of the big three and I'll be sending in a written dispute to the last one tomorrow. I also spoke to the FTC and Texas ATG consumer protection office and opened complaint files with both. I'll be sending out a letter to AMEX tomorrow with all of the info. Thanks everyone for the input. I really hope this gets resolved soon. -

No they didn't. She said since they were the original creditor, they could "re-report" (her word) accounts whenever they wanted. -

So I called AMEX and they are not budging. The account is tied to an address I had in college and they are saying it's mine and since the last date of activity is October 2008 it will be on there for 7 years from now. But I never had an AMEX card and I wouldn't have known that someone else ever did since it never reported on my CR until now (recently). AGH. What now? Oh and also their info doesn't match up... AMEX rep sid that the account was closed 02/1998 and they are reporting it on my CS as closed 04/2005. -

Thank you for the info! I'll go check out the mifyco forums and see what I can find. Hopefully I can get this mess cleared up soon. -

Should I dispute it directly with AMEX? -

See, that is the thing. I don't know if I should dispute this as SOL since the dates are so old or that it isn't mine. Then, I'm not sure if I should dispute with AMEX (who from everything I've read is notoriously difficult) or with the big three each directly? -
I just got a hard copy of my cr from EX and there is a trade line on there from AMEX reporting a closed account from 1997 with a balance of $1186. The thing is I've never had an AMEX card, ever. So not only is this way out of SOL, but it's really not mine. I completed a rehab on some student loans in Aug 08 and started paying attention to all things credit at the end of last year. Apparently so did AMEX (they soft pulled every month from 06/08 to 10/08). It is reporting as opened 7/96 with a date of last payment 10/97, but yet the date of last activity is listed as 10/2008. The account status says pays as agreed and additional info lists it as closed account by credit grantor. As I mentioned the balance amount is $1186 and there is a credit limit of $100 (so I'm guessing this is killing my utilization?). Besides my student loans, the only other things on my crs are two new cc accounts I opened at the beginning of the year (cu visa & target), so this sticks out and looks really bad in terms of my total limits. I've never had anything like this happen, so I'm not exactly sure how to approach this error. Help!
